Very much agreed. I can think of cases where I genuinely got pissed at the murderer, or the victim; I can think of cases where I was genuinely sad for the victim, or even the murderer (the case with the cake springs to mind). None of those cases were particularly recent; mostly, with recent cases, I just think "blah, blah, another sob story... not really enough to warrant murder..."Dus wrote: - No interesting characters. I agree with mangaluva and Dus. If Gosho could add in a little more plot (and consequently characters) into each story to make it seem like there's something to wait for in the next episode (like "24" the show)...mangaluva wrote: I wouldn't midn DC being long-running if there was a higher ratio of plot to filler. As it is, it feels excessively drawn-out.
Knowing that he would put a lot of people out of a job if he stops DC, if he could take a LONG break and come up with another plot twist, that'd be great. The idealist in me is speaking here.
There's always the chance that Gosho could continue Magic Kaito... or another story with just as much interest.
In my opinion, in regards to the cases in London, they seem to be more of a tourist guide than an actual mystery.

Re: The Waiting for Gosho to Collect Evidence Topic
If I were Gosho, I'd finish the main story soon (since people are getting impatient, duh) and do a direct sequel (Meitantei Shiho Shinichi) that does not have an underlying plot stretched out through dozens of volumes. That way, you could actually concentrate on the mystery at hand, make them longer and thus give more room for character developments for the non-recurring characters.

He might do that if Conan started failing (though the manga would probably just stop and not end). But given Conan's success, your suggestion is a risky bet which neither the author nor the editor would be willing to take.
The AO writers have tried since, but failed miserably (582).
The last case which was like that that I can think of is the Coffee One (513-514). Almost hundred episodes have passed since...mangaluva wrote:Very much agreed. 513-514 is the one 500s case I always cite as a glimpse of Gosho's long-lost brilliance. That case was well-written, sharp, and meaningful. It hit all the right notes and had a real impact on the audience. It wasn't the same old, same old that time.Wakarimashita wrote: The last case which was like that that I can think of is the Coffee One (513-514). Almost hundred episodes have passed since...

Re: The Waiting for Gosho to Collect Evidence Topic
This is something I can actually agree with (except for the first and last point but your opinion for the latter, ok) and doesn't go way too far on the "Gosho isn't what he used to be" complaining.Dus wrote: - No real story advancement
- No suspense. Conan was under no pressure the solve this case, he just did it for the sake of completion.
- No interesting characters. This has always been the bane of DC - the arcs don't last long enough for us to get emotionally involved with the characters.
- Run-of-the-mill scenario. Someone dies, police arrives, Conan darts someone and solves the case. Yay.
- Stupid solution. Ideally you should have a "damn, why didn't I think of that" moment when reading the solution to a case. And if even Chekhov feels that the case was insolvable for the reader, then there's clearly something wrong.![]()
Too lazy to quote the other points but the lack of adventure or worthwhile one appearance characters I agree with but I do completely understand...at least the latter.
1. At this point unless it involves the Black Organization, I don't see any important recurring character actually dying. Any suspense, no matter how well done, would be killed for me in that way because at this point (hell probably since the middle of the Vermouth arc) no one has bought a major recurring character dying unless it involves an Organization member considering how the plot has gone (I will admit Gosho should have killed a minor recurring character a while ago to negate this problem).
2. Even early on the suspects in cases often weren't that great. There were some exceptions like the train bombing or the Night Baron case (which kicked ass in that department as all those suspects were awesome (dead mom computer :3)) but usually I didn't care outside of the earliest sad culprit explanations and Carlos. (Carlos :3)

Re: The Waiting for Gosho to Collect Evidence Topic
I'm constantly checking the manga (yes, checking...as in skipping through the file not reading or giving a damn about the case) waiting for Shiho character development and romance. I original loved DC for horrific bloody murder, psychopaths and intelligent characters, not dull kiddy cases. I prefer long cases with a strong horror/ thriller element to allow for character development/ interactions over short scrappy ones. I think most fans want that because most DC fans are teenagers or adults, not children, and were fans of DC in the past...so they want the style of the early files...that's how I see it anyway.

For a lot of older fans, it's really just a game of fill in the blank with the above statement.HayleyStark wrote: I'm constantly checking the manga (yes, checking...as in skipping through the file not reading or giving a damn about the case) waiting for _________________.
I still try to read them all even if I don't expect the cases to be pure gold, because I think GinRei, Abs., and the boys do a mighty fine job on it.

Re: The Waiting for Gosho to Collect Evidence Topic
This is reminding me of the latter years of InuYasha. I swear it just degenerated into endlessly powering up Tessaiga with ever more ultimate moves, and when they ran out of ideas for that they started powering up Hirakotsu. Then they started on Tenseiga... I was like "YOU CAN SHOOT FRIGGIN DIAMONDS, SMASH ALL SHIELDS, AND SPIT UNHOLY FIRE AND LIGHTNING! AND IN THE END YOU KNOW IT'S GOING TO BE A HOLY ARROW THAT KILLS THE BASTARD ANYWAY! SO JUST GO DO THAT!"
This went on for several years, and while I only got into InuYasha in its last couple of years, it still drove me genuinely berserk. All the quirkiness of the original chapters was gone, and there was just an escalating angst and overcompensating sword scale that was being climbed.
I really don't want to hate DC as much as I was starting to hate IY before they finally got a clue and finished the Shikon No Tama so they could get on with the final battle.

I've never been one to read everything every week even though I don't skip any cases- I usually go on case binges on weekends, where I watch 5-6 episodes at a time, though I do read the most recent manga case if it is BO related.
