See the thing is, you use "unavoidable" as an excuse, while I see that as the problem. Most characters (even ones I like) are very "one act" and with a show this long, being a character always used hurts a lot. Next, you mention how groups 3/4 are almost always with group 1 (and maybe group 2), so that again only adds to her exposure in the show. Then you have cases where she really doesn't need to be, but is still stuck in, which in you mind just reads as "too much".Chekhov MacGuffin wrote: Take out a few members of a group for any one given case (or combine some of the groups) and mix and match the cops involved and you get pretty much every Detective Conan case that has been written. "Overexposure" as you put it is pretty much unavoidable given this case setup style. I don't mind it because the focus of the case is usually pretty varied.

Re: Character Contest: Mouri Ran vs. Miyano Akemi
It's unavoidable because Conan is a kid. He isn't supposed to be out alone, so he's with other kids or his guardians. It's the same in real life. The only way to remedy this problem is to add another group in. If it's more kids, then you simply have db gang 2, and why would Conan hang out with another group of teens/adults? We already have the friendly rival (Heiji). It would be difficult to create another group that Conan could be a part of because of his condition.ProfParanoia wrote:See the thing is, you use "unavoidable" as an excuse, while I see that as the problem. Well, Conan's concept in general wouldn't stay fresh for 16 years, one character who's used in almost every eipsode wouldn't be able to do it anyway. I'm not saying make more characters, the problem is the characters are very "one act", which is the problem. Rarely do they do anything but the same shtick. Ran used even in cases where she doesn't need to be. Also, yes it's unavoidlbe, but it's still not good to use a character that much.Chekhov MacGuffin wrote:It's unavoidable because Conan is a kid. Re: Character Contest: Mouri Ran vs. Miyano Akemi
Because of Conan's living situation, it will be impossible to remove Ran's involvement in cases. Many of the cases that Ran is in don't focus on her much. Maybe she makes herself useful by inadvertently coming up with a useful clue or asking the incidentally useful question, but that's about it. Adding characters to group #1 (like teenage friends) would allow more focus on other chars and could give some of Ran's usual roles to someone else. Eisuke was like that during the Kir arc. It's one of the reasons I wish he would come back.ProfParanoia wrote: Well, Conan's concept in general wouldn't stay fresh for 16 years, one character who's used in almost every eipsode wouldn't be able to do it anyway. Well, Ran has character that's a way of getting into things or out of them without having to put much thought into how. But, despite this she really is touched upon for various things during cases a lot, usually outside or little to do with the case.Chekhov MacGuffin wrote: Because of Conan's living situation, it will be impossible to remove Ran's involvement in cases. EDIT: So, I had like more than this but my net sucks so it didn't post and I only have the above stuff because I copy/pasted that part of my post to move it. If I remember more of what I said I'll post it but for the time being that's all of it I have.
EDIT 2: LMFAO, did I just make discussion johns?
EDIT 3: Actually, the full thing was probably only a bit longer so I doubt it matters.
EDIT 4: I like editing.

more than likely, many of akemi's votes were really more "anti-ran" votes, I would say.Ran-neechan16 wrote: I've got a better question, how the hell did Akemi get so many votes?
I mean, I like her and all...but she's dead and hasn't really been in the show all that much.Spoiler:

Ah, so this is what character placement envy is like.
Ran's in it a lot, live with it.

Re: Character Contest: Mouri Ran vs. Miyano Akemi
I like discussions, really.
But I want to remind people that this is a poll about which character you like/prefer. So there is NO wrong option/result. There is also no "problem" either. Because that's just how people feel about certain characters. Even if people "hate" or "love" them.
Kthxbye.
I also tolerate discussions where you say you dislike a certain character. So, as long as you give new input, and don't repeat yourself with just "I don't like him/her, cuz or similar things, everything is alright. Which pretty much happened till now with the discussion.
I just want to warn, in case in the future it escalates into the "I don't like him/her, cuz I say so "discussion, which is an equivalent to "you!" "No, you!" "No, you!" discussion, I'll close the thread.

Re: Character Contest: Mouri Ran vs. Miyano Akemi
Even if she's still a protagonist, Ran has had less appearances in the past few years in comparaison to the first seasons.
Number of appearances out of the total amount of episodes :
1996 : 40 out of 42
1997 : 43 out of 43 (!!)
1998 : 43 ouf of 43 (!!)
1999 is where it begins to decrease (30 out of 45) and as of today, we're still arond those figures (25 out of 41 in 2009).
Thus, I think that those who complain about Ran's overexposure have forgetten how often she appeared at the beginning of the show.
