I guess we do hate on everyone, miiiii~
Well for me, I'm definitely sexist :O.  So it's really great to have people like Xela who goes "Oie! Stop being so sexist!" *smacks with tuna*.

I can't help it, I'm with fangirls too much D:.  And when you listen to hours and hours about how "OMG WONDERFUL" Shinichi is, you start to take the opposite view automatically.
Hey, I have an idea, let's have a THIS SUCKS / NO THIS SUCKS / NO YOU / NO YOU argument for a couple pages, that will really be great. - Ingmar

All I can say is... Within a few days of getting the DVD on-hand, this will be released (OVA8 will come before, and that will be... soon). Just saying that if you can hold out, you probably shouldn't spoil yourself any further. :-X

I'm a fangirl as well, but the more I roleplay as Shinichi, the more you would want to torture them. >_>

It´s really bothering me how everyone claims that Shinichi is the egoist while Ran is the "poor victim". Even though he said that it would be okay if she forgets about him and just get happy, he still loves her and I think it´s pretty understandable that he wouldn´t all cheery about Ran moving on while he himself has to live as another person.
As you said, it´s a nightmare. He knows and thinks that if there´s really no way out, Ran should forget about him- but can you blame him for fearing that situation? If he had no problem with this thought at all, someone should give him the prize for being the most selfless person in the world- and that would give him more Mary-Sue-characteristics which you all seem to hate on him.

...
Sexism much? Just because he´s guy doesn´t mean that he isn´t suffering just as much as Ran- or a lot more.
Shinichi prooved many times that he cares more about Ran´s feelings and well-being than about his own. Does the fear that Ran might forget about him immediately makes him an egoist?
He's having the time of his life as Conan. He's living with the person he cares about most, even taking  her for granted (14.1-p3), and solving all the cases he comes across. Sure, he feels bad when he sees her crying about him, but he's never actually acted on what he said to Haibara. It's nowhere close to Ran's situation, never knowing when she'll get to see him again, and for a good part of the story never knowing when she'll even hear his voice again. So far the sacrifice is mostly hers.

If, as I suspect, he'll eventually have to choose between Ran and a life as a lone wolf detective then I'd give him respect for making a permanent sacrifice he'll regret at least a bit no matter the choice. I'd still probably see him as presumptuous and disrespectful if he has time to give Ran a chance to make an informed choice whether to share the danger and doesn't let her choose, but I'd still respect it as making a tough sacrifice for her sake.

By the way, I doubt someone in Ran's situation would ever just forget about Shin'ichi if he just disappeared, even if romance weren't involved. It would be too much like losing a close relative. Heck, I've seen folks crying about lost pets when they're reminded of them years later .

Well, I dont think that he has to decide between a life as a lone wolf detective and ran. He can be together with ran and be a detective. Why not? Ran respects him and understand him, so I dont think that there would be a problem.
Detectives are humans, they also can be together with someone :)

If {he} wants to expose organized crime, rather than just track down people's long lost childhood friends, find their pets, or spy on their adulterous spouses, he should join the police. That way he has backup and easier access to protection for his family. Even Holmes wasn't supposed to survive his investigation into Moriarty's gang...

There is an "if" there.
The point was going alone against an organisation with loved ones behind your back is as good as asking "kill us all", that's why you should be part of an organisation (police, FBI, CIA etc.), so that you can focus on working rather than worring yourself to death about your loved ones.
No matter how much of a Silver Bullett Shinichi is, if he where alone against them he wouldn't stand a chance. But he has a good "team", or rather very good connections that'd give him a good back-up.

I wonder whether Araide would pop up in the manga again after this OVA.

Well, I don´t think Shinichi is having the time of his life. Sure he is living with Ran but not as himself.
If I were him, I would have already been crushed by the possibility of losing my idenity. I don´t think he found his life to be that bad.
But this matter isn´t even adressed. The only reason Shinichi wants to return to his usual self seems to be Ran.
And even if he is able to destroy the BO, there is also the question if Ran will "forgive" him.
I´m not trying to talk Ran´s situation down, but I don´t know how it is even comparable to Shinichi´s.

I think that Ran would deffinitly forgive him, because you know she absolutely is in love with him.
Even when he let waiting her she forgave him and when she is suspicious she doesnt seem to be angry.
