In tennis, when a player leads 30-0 in a game or 4-0 in a set, the chair umpire says "thirty-love" or "four games to love, first set". Basically, in tennis, love is zero, and Minerva thought it was also the case in life. However, Shinichi says that in order to accomplish something, you must always start from zero. This assumption also works in tennis, obviously.

That's not what ShinRan's asking at all.  What the question is is this:  why is Love zero in real life?  Not in terms of tennis.

It's just a very negative perspective on love.  I can't explain it properly, though.

What Commi said. Minerva broke up with Ares (forget how long ago), so I assume she isn't so happy with romances at the moment. If you just separated from someone yet you still are attracted to them, those remaining feelings are worthless, painful, and make it hard to move on. Because she is unhappy about love, Minerva is saying love is nothing/worthless. Basically this is the tennis metaphor equivalent of a breakup song about how love sucks.
Shinichi spun that around to say love starts with no feelings and then builds when two people get to know each other and become closer which is like getting points and winning sets in tennis. - Which is what Wakarimashita said more elegantly than I did just now.

0 is the mathematical term for being neutral, the perfect middle. Same as love, love isn't just about positive things, it's also about the negative aspects of a relationship between two people. Love is the epitome of neutralism, perfectly in the middle of everything, being in harmony and peace with both your negative and postive things. Imperfectly perfect.
