In a way, this is the complete opposite of the Blue Spark of Hatred. I didn't care about the 1st 10 or so minutes of the first part but after that I enjoyed this case very much. Eri talking with Ran about the case made this case seem somewhat different too. The second half of it was especially great and I was very much into the case, despite the usual predictability of who the culprit is.
And I like that Kogoro continues to only actually help solve murder cases because of stupid stuff he did in the past.

It was refreshing in a few ways, I agree. I liked Conan's role, especially, even though I'm not a total Eri fanboy. It just seemed like a nice way for the story to play out, so score one for Gosho.
