How to Be a Teenage Detective

Post by Aluecard »

Do you ever have strange mysterious things happen to you or someone you know? Do you ever have strange, suspicious feelings about the people around you and what they're really doing? For example suspicious neighbors, phone people showing up and working on your phone line when you didn't ask them to. If so or if you'd just like to learn how to be a teenage detective or be observant, and get clues and you want some good tips then  :oREAD ON! 8)
  Steps to take
  1. If there's something you're suspicious about, check it out!
  2. Have a sharp eye for catching things that don't feel quite right.
  3. Try to be observant, but not obnoxious!
  4. Be ready to ask a lot of questions!
  5. Be self confident and act like you know it all, even if you don't!
  6. Do research, and maybe even ask a detective for more tips.
  7. When searching for clues never give up, persevere, and keep a sharp eye.
  8. Learn how to tell how people are feeling by how they look
  9. Don't overeact and call the police because you THINK they stole the Micklens dog. Be SURE.
sum tips
1# If you're spying on someone (for instance a suspicious neighbor) and it's night, make sure to turn off the light in the room you're spying from. That way, the people who you are spying on can't see you as well. Also, be sure not to open the curtains too much because you could risk being seen! 8)
2#Think, be smart, and do lots of research! If you don't think, you're dumb, and you don't try to find out or learn things about being an amateur detective then you won't get anywhere. 8)
3#Keep your eyes open for trouble! But be careful and always know what you're getting yourself into! 8)
4#It would help to take a self defense class (just in case) 8)
5#If you find a clue, have a piece of tissue to pick it up with so that you don't smear any of the criminal's fingerprints 8)
6#When out investigating or looking for clues, ALWAYS CARRY A CELL(mobile) PHONE and be ready to call your local emergency number if you absolutely need to. 8)
7#When investigating or looking for clues it's a good idea to take someone with you, like a friend (or two). 8)
8#Never call anybody the culprit at thet first, refer to them as a suspect.
9# always keep your cool no mater what hapens evan if your best friend dies or worse 8)
10# make shure your always calm  no maTER WHAT  .
(Warnings)
1.Avoid being seen when spying.
2.Don't get yourself into a sticky situation or you might not be able to get out of it.
3.If someone catches you and tries to hurt you when you're spying, investigating, or looking for clues, then SCREAM really loud, and call the police right away!
4.Don't accuse someone of breaking a law or something unless you can prove it
Things You'll Need

    * A magnifying glass (to look for clues)
    * A notebook (to write down any suspicions)
    * A tape recorder (to interview people or suspects)
    * A bag (to put clues in)
    * A KEEN EYE!
    * Binoculars (to help you get a close up look at the people you're spying on!)
    * A flashlight
    * A camera
    * A Brain  8)
AND LAST but not least

8)THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUTH! 8)

also don't rely on anything you hear/see in detective conan or other mysteries for that matter -- most of the time they are pure fiction

a good example of this is snake bite first aid-- which is reinforced in one of the conan eps
you're really not supposed to suck out the poison, and you can't do it anyway if you tried

Awww, this means I can't be a detective!

Yeah, that's true. You should never joining in on an investigation and expect that the police or anyone would allow it, like with Conan. After all, if you get too involved in a case, you can ruin any chances of finding the criminal, and you might even be considered a potential suspect.

Hmmmm... after reading through the list I am sorry to say that most of this is incorrect. First off, no police inspector would allow a high school ANYWHERE NEAR a crime-scene without some form of affiliation. Even Sherlock Holmes had to make a name for himself to be noticed by the police. Also, a lot of this list is common sense (for example: Not being seen when following someone). If you truly wish to become a detective I would learn about different types of guns, rigamortis, explosives, etc.. Being a detective is tough, and even if you have a keen eye, that does not mean you are a good detective. For example, if you have bad reasoning skills, faint at the site of blood, have a quick temper, have a superiority complex (or some other complexes), or a load of other things, being a detective is not right for you.

This list needs a good deal of revision in my opinion, and should state that to start, you should try and find really small cases like runaway dogs, or something going on at your school that is not too big. As your reputation grows you might find more cases and people might seek you out. DO NOT try to interfere with police business of you might find yourself in a world of trouble...

ummmm... why would you want someone to die? Why not something less morbid like arson, assault, attempted murder (with the murder escaping)... although it would be cool to solve it... no arguments there!

I would say a Tantei should build his knowledge up like this:
      1. Knowledge of Literature.—Nil.
      2. Knowledge of Philosophy.—Nil.
      3. Knowledge of Astronomy.—Nil.
      4. Knowledge of Politics.—Feeble.
      5. Knowledge of Botany.—Variable. Well up in belladonna, opium and poisons generally. Knows  nothing of practical gardening.
      6. Knowledge of Geology.—Practical, but limited. Tells at a glance different soils from each other. After walks, has shown me splashes upon his trousers, and told me by their colour and consistence in what part of London he had received them.
      7. Knowledge of Chemistry.—Profound.
      8. Knowledge of Anatomy.—Accurate, but unsystematic.
      9. Knowledge of Sensational Literature.—Immense. He appears to know every detail of every horror perpetrated in the century.
      10. Plays the violin well.
      11. Is an expert singlestick player, boxer and swordsman.
      12. Has a good practical knowledge of British law.

But don't forget, evert thing you learn is a good thing, now-a-day a case needs more then only these points that Holmes needed for his work. But I would say that this is the basic of every detective......^^

ps: Holmes new a lot more then this list states, even the points with ''nil'' are not completly true, dr Watson made this list, so....^^

I always got the impression that Conan's medical knowledge was some what limited (Haibara being the obvious expert) but apparently from the case with Eisuke that is not the case.... also he needs to learn a musical instrument if he really wants to live up to Holmes =P

@bright_zero

Yea.. but that list was made in A Study in Scarlet.. the first novel. It was a very early list on Holmes. Definitely not the most thorough.

@ten

I would think that maybe Conan/Shinichi is a virtuoso in soccer, a sport, instead of a musical instrument such as Holmes' violin. We also know that C/S doesn't take 7% cocaine injections in his arm. haha

Lol... I find this topic fun to read. No offense, but I can 100% guarantee that no one will become a detective JUST from reading this. Like all professions, not everyone is cut out to be a detective and there are no sure-cut-ways to become a detective. This means that so list composed would be useless, since most every detective has their own methods of detection, and so no such generic list can exist.

But w/e... if one of you ever becomes a message please send me a message so that I may know I was wrong >.<

this topic is interesting how to be a detective ???hmmmm  ???
it pretty much depends i could make a whole list for those who want to do it for fun :D
as for those who are taking it seriously let me tell u ryt now NO DETECTIVE IS THE BEST it depends upon ur reasoning , observing skill , experience and of course LUCK
it is impossible in my opinion to be a good detective cuz even the best of them make mistakes therefore losing a case
but tht doesnt mean u cant TRY i mean dont give up just dont expect too much out of urself lyk i said even the best make mistakes
i would LOVE to try being one but NOTHING happens here!!! :'(
plus i cant go outside widout standing out let alone spy someone
oh well at least i have my dreams....... 8)
