Random Poll of the Day! (91)

Post by Kor »

2 votes max since there are a lot of novels that fit under more than one genre, but don't feel like you must to choose two, of course.

I can't decide... except for historical fiction (which I know little of history and its accuracy to give the genre justice), modern day romance (which seems more like sex), sci-fi and fantasy (I'm too uncreative to make another world that doesn't seem like the one I live in), horror (because I can't be scary...), and books that cater to younger audience (because they sound partly childish), I'd try to write them if I can think of a good novel (not meaning new) idea.

What's commercial fiction?

Fantasy story doesn't have to be set in another world. It can also be our world, only with some added fantasy elements......................................like Twilight! *Gets shot*

My way to insert horror and/or dark themes into the sequels of my novel - start bright and then turn it dark with some psychological twists here and there. (though yeah, I wouldn't qualify it as horror)

That's usually the point  ;D

Most commercial fiction is plot-driven with formulaic characters who represent the protagonist and the antagonist. It is important for a commercial fiction novel to be highly entertaining and of mass commercial appeal.

At first I didn't intend to vote in this poll (since I've already written stuff), but then I thought of a story which I will NEVER EVER write. A story that is both Science Fiction and Fantasy.
Two worlds collide with each other. One has magic, the other technology. Eventually, they start a war against each other. Who will win?

Oh great, and now, after I thought about it, the idea will not leave me for days and I will develop it more and more. DAMN IT!

The best thing in the story, is that you have to choose which faction you like more. I will have to try hard to not make it look like good vs. evil, so the reader will have to choose for who he cheers. It's a tough one, but-

NO! STOP THINKING! ARGHHHHHH *shoots himself*

Naw, they wouldn't necessarily collide.  They can peacefully coexist.

Fantasy and Mystery with a hint of Romance.

I actually intend to be an author someday, like Kor.

Mystery, thriller, or a dystopian novel.

The one I last worked on (and got stuck and haven't dug myself out of writer's block on it yet) was Mystery/Fantasy.
