It's not necessary Ai taking the lead,it's just Ai being the center of the story,being really important...
as long as I remember,the most interesting arc was mostly focused on Ai(the Vermouth/Sherry arc),to my mind it's better than having useless love stories or repetitive cases...

It is true that, as of now, Ai has had absolutely no importance whatsoever in the Bourbon Arc. Take the Bank Case, all she did was wait outside with the professor the whole time. Concerning the Store Case, I think it was the first direct confrontation with the BO where Ai was not involved at all. Perhaps Gosho is planning to get her involved at the last moment, who knows.

exactly,her role in BO cases was neglected,it's time for her to have a bigger role considering her importance when she was in the BO...moreover Sherry is supposed to be Bourbon's target,according to Kir...I don't know why Gosho would write that several times  if it's not true...It wouldn't be logical if BO give up on fiding Sherry,so Haibara SHOULD take center stage one day...even if it's late in the story
