Stones aren't used in Germany. We still use pounds, but 1lb=500g. Makes conversion fairly easy.
The Brits use both system among other things because the EU makes them use the metric system:)
The old system still survives because of recipes and other things that have been around for a while.
I'd rather buy my milk by the gallon, more practical than 1l milk cartons...

or you can use Kelvin, so nobody knows what you're talking about.

And I suppose that's true about being too lazy to convert old things, considering that's basically the case with the US.
