yeah it's obvious that it's a conspiracy where Shonen Sunday forces Gosho to continue this series. Because Shonen Sunday is really the NHK. :0000000000

I'm not sure, but it could have been from Chile or Mexico.

Pretty sure his name is unchanged, since he never made it to the anime and the manga stopped changing names pretty early (except for Haibara).

In Spain fortunately they maintained the names and I never heard those awfull translations but in South america they chnaged the names following USA example, they tend to be closer to USA than to Spain in TV politics and such. In the past though, it was usual to translate the names in Spain too, but that was over by the time detective conan came into scene. I remmeber buying second hand VHSs of the first cases after watching them on TV... nostalgic.

21 pages of thread later.... I have a potentially useful tool for any of you who wish to attack the letter. I'll post again if I come up with anything.

Sherlock Holmes search engine
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_folklore

A few things about the letter that stand out to me right away. It has some extra "r"s. Gosho's english is normally fairly decent - although awkward at times, it's almost never misspelled. The "rolling bell" probably should be "tolling bell" and "cerebrate" should be "celebrate". I think there is a reason for the extra "r"s. There's probably Japanese and English double punningsince the guy talked in Japanese when giving it to the kid. It probably also explains why the kid was the recipient, since he spoke Japanese and would be in a predictable place since the Wimbledon opening were going on.

The letter probably contains hints for the following things at the minimum: intended target, location, and date. The cake implies a birthday, probably a birthday of someone or something referred to in the riddle to give a date or time. The bell, the wizard, the chilled boiled egg, and the pickle probably help specify location. The "white back - cut off" is probably the target.

The chilled boiled eggs with pickle reminds me of pickled eggs: a tradition in English pubs. Wizards bring to mind Merlin of course. The tolling bell reminds of Big Ben.
Red lion pub in Parliament Square? It has a bell in it to summon MPs that might be there back to the chamber for a vote... It would also have pickled eggs.

They guy didn't talk in Japanese, but he might have known who the boy was and that he spoke some Japanese. Since both rolling and cerebrate are actual words, I thik it's fair to assume that they just slipped past the spell checker. Whose birthday could it be though? Holmes's is 6 January 1854, the story is set in July. Doyle was born 22 May 1859. No-one else comes to mind.
And none of the key words seem to play a role in the novels, so we're back to square one...
Holmes was referred to as a wizard 4 times and long-nosed could mean European, which would indicate it was written by a japanese person.
We don't make mistakes. We have happy accidents.

Gosho doesn't often misspell things, and intentional misspelling has been used to give clues in the past. I wouldn't ignore it.
