Re: Files 743-??? Discussion Thread
Sure, but a character seeing a handful of murders makes no more sense then seeing 300 when comparing the situation with reality. Concerning Conan, despite the classic structure, the reader faces whodunnits and howdunnits with murders, DB treasure hunts, robberies, pyromania, romance...so it isn't as repetitive as it may sound in your post. Besides, who says it was more original 300 episodes ago ? Some people were probably complaining back in the time as well.I don't know about Poirot, but there're only a handful of Holmes cases. We have surely seen a lot more Detective Conan cases, than Holmes' cases were written. On top of that, Conan cases are quite structured. A group of new characters is introduced in a particular situation (let's say party), one of them does something stupid, like go take a walk alone, and a moment later someone finds him dead and screams like a girl, everyone rushes to the scene, the usual police officer shows up (Megure/Yamamura/Yokomizo), Kogoro starts pointing people out at random, Conan notices some casualy placed hint, points it out, no one will think anything new until Conan discovers the next hint. After that, he puts Kogoro/Sonoko/Yamamura to sleep and starts solving the case using his/her voice, or Agasa's voice if no one's available. This all was very original 300 episodes ago. Now it's just repetitive.
Also, BO episodes won't become repetitive if they go somewhere. Up until now the story has advanced. At first we knew about 2 guys dressed in black that extorted this corrupt CEO, and poisoned Shinichi. Now we know there's an Org, that it has a leader, that it has several varied activities (biochemistry, IT, inteligence, murder, etc.), that it's been going around for a while, we know several of it's members and all their names and most of their ways of action, we know the FBI and CIA has been investigating them, and we have a mole. Our main character befriended one of its fugitive former members, who happens to be the scientist that was investigating the poison he took. We also apparently lost the most apt agent fighting against them. If it keeps advancing, it will eventually lead to a conclusion, not to repetition.
A lot of elements have been addded since the beginning, indeed, leading to people asking questions. Have we gotten any answers ? Not really. Take the department store case, I see it as the perfect exemple of a BO case that has gone absolutely nowhere.

There is more variation in the set-up of the individual cases with the majority of the other detectives. The oly thing in DC that is varied is the method of the murderer, there have been hardly any cases that completely blew my mind.
The Poirot/Holmes/Marple/Columbo/whoever mysteries can be regarded as isolated cases, it's not in the least important how much time passes in-between cases. In DC, they're all connected by the overall plot.I say the murder mysteries will benefit from the resolution of the plot. Because only then can we truly focus on the case itself.

We don't make mistakes. We have happy accidents.

This was at least justified last time but, Conan is in London. Stop whining or I will have to choke a bitch.
So far, (apart from the seemingly odd start) this case is VERY promising.

I hope Gosho's English is good enough to make a decent code out of English text. He's gonna need some help here. Although, Japanese readers probably won't appreciate the resolution part that much since the average English proficiency of the readers is... well... not really that good. That's why it's possible that the code is only solvable w/Japanese & English integration of sorts, just like the serial bomber case (the EVIT one, you know what I mean)

Even if the ending is really what we all expect it would be, it's still interesting to know how it was achieved, and how it affected other characters like Kaito Kid and Haibara.Wakarimashita wrote:I feel like most people will be disappointed by the finale not only because of their expectations but also because it's been awfully predictable since the beginning (Shinichi and Ran end up together, the BO is defeated, everyone lives happily ever after). Detective Conan's strengh, at least according to me, isn't the plot which Gosho seems to consider as secondary seeing the pace of the progression but the diversity and the originality of the cases.

Not sure if this was said already, but someone did say that Gosho said that the chapters in London story would be important to Ran and Shinichi's relationship...maybe she'll find out he's Jimmy?
And I think the reason Gosho's taken so long to give us something for the main plot is because he's planning something bigger. Or not. Just my opinion.
