Saying "have you ever tried to use drugs" rather than "have you tried drugs" or "have you used drugs" makes it sorta sound like you attemtped to use them but failed, which is pretty funny to me.

tbh I was in conflict between the two sentences you said. I didn't know which one was more correct, so I thought "hmm....maybe I'll combine the two together." then the phrase gave another meaning (as you said) about the "try to use", so I decided to leave it that way. I don't have any idea about drugs (aside from what I see in movies) so I decided to leave it that way, thinking that maybe for some people it's hard to use drugs, so maybe there people who tried to use, but didn't succeed for one reason or the other.

This, reminded me of a girl who came to me, crying because she got a D on her test, guess what she failed at, "Identifying drugs", like 50 drugs were listed, she didn't know about that many drugs, how can she ever classify them all? and I'm worried about the ones who aced that test ^^

A test should not affect one's grade if one was not taught the subject matter.
