Opinions on the OVAs?

Post by Jd- »

Let's throw out our opinions on each of the OVA's.

OVA 1: Nice, but a little too wacky for my taste. It flowed well and is definitely worth watching.
OVA 2: It's an interesting premise that tries to develop on the standard Conan formula with some very respectable writing, and comes off as a recommendable watch.
OVA 3: This OVA is good. The story seems to be a decent one on the surface level and works out well throughout the episode. There are a few enjoyable moments, like the "alternate" Detective Boys' first appearance.
OVA 4: Definitely the best in my opinion. Originally a manga with only Kid, the OVA development team did a nice job of including Conan but not making him overshadow Kid. Very nicely done.
OVA 5: This one is... a little embarrassing. I mean, it's obviously catered directly toward the younger audience of Shounen Sunday, but c'mon :P.
OVA 6: The whole diamond plot is really great... when you first hear of it. When you actually watch the OVA, you realize that it probably took them an hour and a half plus breaks to write the script to this. It's worth watching, but it could have been much-much better. A close-encounter with Kid and Hattori would have spiced things up a bit. Some of the scenes in the OVA just kinda seem like they were put in to fill the run-time--at least to me.
OVA 7: Meh, another one catered toward the younger Conan fans. There's a lot to like about this OVA, but there's also a lot not to as well. It does flow well, I'll give them that.

While I think half of the OVA's are "really good" and the other half are just "good enough," don't get me wrong: they're all worth a watch.

I personally don't have any problems with any of the OVA's. I find them all good and interesting nice twists on them also. Good stuff is good. My favorite would have to be 6.

Truth be told: I liked OVA 2 the least. The way the synopsis presented it (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=5141) made me excited to wait until someone fansubbed it, but when I watched it, it was really boring to me. I thought there was no true point behind it, and the case was too simple a case.

But out of all of them, my favorite was OVA 4. I liked how they added Conan into the Magic Kaito story, while still keeping it about KID.

By the way, is it actually called OVA or OAV? I've heard some people use OAV, but mainly people use OVA.

OVA 1: Odd.  Not bad, but very odd.  I'd probably not like it if I didn't know it originated from the Kaitou Kid Manga.
OVA 2: Really well done, but didn't like the case itself much.  Hattori being the culprit, not fessing up, and actually blaming Kogoro doesn't seem very in character.
OVA 3: I liked this one.  Ignoring the bizarro Detective Boys it was actually a fun case.
OVA 4: Would've been better if they had fleshed it out another 10-15minutes, but other than that it was good.
OVA 5: I liked this one, it seemed like it could've just been any standard Anime Original episode.
OVA 6: This was okay.  Not bad, not good.  Would've been better if it had a better ending than it did.
OVA 7: Detective Boy quiz episodes are bad.  So are Detective Boy OVAs.

ova 1: really strange, to say the least... I didn't enjoy it too much but it's not a bad watch.
ova 2: I liked this one a little bit but overall, it wasn't such a great case. I was thinking "WOw really? 16 suspects? Sounds nice.." then I made the mistake of watching... jkjk it's not too bad.
Ova 3: hmm this one satisfied my tastes. i liked this case. One of my favorite ovas.
Ova 4: my favorite of all, I'll admit. I like Kaitou Kid cases.
ova 5: I don't like most Det. Boys cases. only so-so
Ova 6: I liked it... but it was kinda disappointing. I was expecting more since it had both Heiji and Kid...
ova 7: again, another Detective Boys case. Not so great.

I liked all the OVA's, but my favorites are the ones with Kaitou Kid. He just makes everything more exciting and dramatic.

my computer shut down when i tried replying this earlier.  i wonder if it's a sign.  obviously i haven't learned my lesson.

OVA1 - i loved it just cause it was the first one i watched.  OVAs are supposed to be a bit out there anyways.  and i had just learned / read the kaitou kid manga by that point i think.
OVA2 - it was ok, but kinda a weird scenario for a case.  heiji afraid of a mouse was nice, especially his face.
OVA3 - this one didn't jump at me i don't think.  honestly i can't remember it.  i'll probably watch it again and think it's the best one ever.
OVA4 - didn't like it somehow.  queen rubbed me the wrong way.  or i couldn't quite figure out why conan was in it.  haha.
OVA5 - yes, this one really did seem like it could have been a regular episode, nothing too special.
OVA6 - i liked this one.  cause it had heiji & kid.  i kept thinking the whole time, where the hell is kaitou kid.  and then we finally see him, and it's over.
OVA7 - i really do like cute detective boys cases.  every 25 cases or so in between, it's nice change of pace.  agasa really getting kidnapped was predictable, but fit in really well with the detective boys standard plot lines.

I didn't really like the OVAs. It was more like a pass time entertainment than a must watch DC episode. Plus, the OVAs kinda destroyed Kaitou Kid's name, I think  ;D

Not really.  Both OVA 1 and OVA 4 were based off of the Kaitou Kid manga, they just shoehorned Conan in.  At least, he was added to OVA 1, not sure if he was in the original manga version of OVA 4.

I'll give each OVA ratings (out of 5):

1- 5/5 (Yaiba's grand mother wasn't bad)
2- 5/5 (I like Heiji feeling guilty)
3- 4/5 (I liked Kansai-ben version of Detective Boys)
4- 3/5 (No comments)
5- 2/5 (I only liked the scene at the end when detective boys' classmates came to Kogoro to help them)
6- 4/5 (Yoko-chan isn't bad)
7- 1/5 (What was the case?)

The OVAs were pretty much okay :D to me! I really liked the 2nd one! Because of all the people in it :D [too bad shinichi's parents weren't there] :P

The second one was by far my favorite.

If you want my "opinion on the ovas"  ;D then i'd have to say I don't like them very much because they are not LONG ENOUGH lol

I've only downloaded OVAS 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6, since i don't like the shounen tantei.
1: It was definitely wacky, but I really liked it. I was LOLing throughout the whole episode. Pure nostalgia, since I watched Yaiba when I was a kid.
2: Liked it. The animation was quite good, plus the story has very nice twists. And I liked Hattori in it.
3: Meh. Kinda boring.
4. Not so bad, but not so good either.
5. Kinda fast. And the story was so simple.
