That's something that, while ultimately a bit cheesy, I have never ruled out. Yusaku owns everyone and everything..

Yuusaku is the top of my list, actually. he played as a BO member in that episide early on, and how would he have known how to act, unless he already knew the BO (agasa can only tell him o much...)

In his last appearance, Goro-chan didn't show any "intelligence". So I guess that the boss has returned back to the organization after he had accomplished his task. The cat which is with Eri now is probably another real cat, not the boss himself.

Im sorry to disappoint people here but the BOSS has not appear yet in the series you can check lots of SERIOUS websites and you shall see there is a name but that person has never shown in the series.
Also yakubu is impossible to be the boss since he represents Holmes brother.Mouri cant be because if he is acting as someone said he defenitly is the best in the world.
The only possible theory is the pill but still nowhere is said they know what the pill does so that weakens that theory

and remember DC is still fiction, no one can yet to explain why vermouth never age... so the boss can be anybody

i dont think THE BOSS is a shrank Guy becauseif it is why would the BO fear him? and if that's it then the BO will no that the APTX4816(or watever) dont kill and will suspect shinichi to be still alive but they already are almostly sure(except Vermouth) that he's dead!!!!!

i just saw ep 67 an anime original
it introduces mouri and megure's mentor
that i say is the boss.
old so he wants the drug to live longer.
cunning because he found out the method / culprit even before shinichi
and he was introduced but isnt well enough know

ohh and in 71 kogoro was called by megure as conan and megure by kogoro as conan
they  argrue about who called who and then conan hits him with the dart at which point kogoro says
"inspector it really was me who called you here"
its as if he knew what conan was going to do
my question is does gosho do the anime originals or is that up to other writers
maybe that is foreshadowing? any other instances that show kogoro is actually smart and just acting?
