Well that's what Gin says, but he doesn't seem to know anything ^^;.

I understand the connection between 4869 (shi ha ro ku) and sherlock (which has to be pronounced by a Japanese who can't speak English very well in order to sound like 4869), but can anyone explain why in Vol. 24, chapter 10, Ai says "According to the way you pronounce 4869 ... which sounds like 'good-for-nothing-detective'"?
(I have this tranlation from read.homeunix.com since those volumes were taken down from the DCTP server)

I found the episode where I saw the plate number as "A 48-69" on Gin's car! It's episode 129 Haibara's first appearance.
Finally found it  :P  lol
Spoiler:
You know, "A 48-69" where the "A" stands for "Apotoxin"  :P

Sherlock Holmes is the Head of the B.O.
He somehow came in contact with Pandora (which the "gray org" of Magic Kaito think will activate within the next ten years, but really activated in... let's see... sometime before 1891) so in 1891, when he really did go over the falls, but he was immortal, and didn't die.

This explanes this use of the numbers of his name for a possible immortality drug.

Unless it was Moriarty who was immortal, then took the place of Sherlock Holmes using some Vermouth-level disguise techniques...

He named the drug after his onetime enemy for the lulz
So Haibara's "radar" goes off at odd times, right? And she thinks that it is linked to the Black Org, right?
But all of the times it's gone off, there have been FBI (or suspected FBI) members there...
So, it's an FBI radar.

Well, it's the right chapter but I was referring to a scene some pages further. Its this one:

I was hoping that someone who understands more Japanese than me (that is, is not just able to count up to ten) could explain what the expression "Good for nothing detective" has to do with 4869.
Thx

What if this drug were called Sherlock because it was designed to react differently in people with superior cognitive ability?  A possible application is it could have filtered candidates for positions in the BO.  Of course those rejected would die, but I can't imagine that would bother any of those affiliated with the BO.  Also, Ai is a genius, so it would explain why she and Conan both activated the less frequent effect.
I'd never thought of that, but it sounds quite logical! o,o
However, if that was the case, the B.O. could have suspected from the beginning that Sherry/Ai has been turned into a kid, couldn't it? After all, it is quite obvious that she's a genius, considering she developed the drug.

Now that you mention it, Vermouth didn't seem to have much trouble making the connection between Ai and Sherry ^^.  As I said before it seems only a very selected few of the org knows what the drugs do.  The rest only knows it as "poison that kills without a trace" (like Gin).

I like the idea, but it doesn't explain the rat (or was it a mouse) that shrunk during testing.  Unless, of course, the rat was secretly a genius.

Scary...  Maybe Brain is the boss of the BO, and Pinky is somehow disguised as Vodka.  Then it would all make sense.
