I'm up for doing an DC specials (counting certain arcs like desperate revival and clash as specials) contest after the movie contest as done. I don't think it would be a walkover for Clash of Red and black either; there are several other cases would have a good chance at beating it.

Ai wa Kurayami no Naka de, It is one of the only songs that really captured what was going on currently in the storyline. Revive was a great song and all, but Ai wa Kurayami no Naka de just has so much more.

Yeah, 10 is sort of weird. The reason I was thinking of specials is because there've been, iirc, 29 and when you throw in Desperate Revival and Clash, along with another memorable one (maybe the recent Koumei case or 309-311) you get 32 which is a nice number.

I agree. Specials seem like a good choise. We can't do arcs because it's obvious which one will win.

The results will differ in that a contest like that will leave us with a real ranking list, so we'll get a first, a second etc.
With a knock-out tournament, it's impossible to identify any rank except for the first (and even that may be wrong, depending on how you define "best"). Therefore a Swiss System Tournament would clarify who's 2nd etc. Not to mention a Swiss System will give us a really accurate result, as we can not only go by winning or losing, but by voting percentages.
However, should we really decide to make one, we'd need a (temporary) subforum, otherwise General Discussion will be flooded with 14-15 new Opening Contest topic each week, for about 10-15 subsequent weeks...

Just do one Condorcet ranked poll. That'll imply the results of all pairwise match-ups in one vote. People need to be aware that ranking openings they hate while leaving openings they don't care about off the ballot is actually casting votes for songs/sequences they hate, though. They still don't need to rank everything, just indicate where the ambivalent middle becomes teh list o' haet. Eg, let them cast ballots with something like 23>1>don't care>2=7=8>12.

Of course, having just one poll is no fun, right?

I would just do a "quick elimination round" and get rid of the everything except the top 8 (not so much by voting as much as "name your least favorite couple of specials and the ones with the most votes are gone until only 8 are left)
