What would YOU do?
Let's say you loaned an acquaintance $100 USD (or whatever the highest denomination of circulated currency is where you are at). While the two of you are walking down the street, or in a park, or wherever, this acquaintance suddenly dies of a heart attack. Before anyone else notices, would you take the money (or as much of it as possible) from his/her wallet?

I voted Yes, but then I re-read the post and noticed the "Before anyone else notices"...

There is actually a show in Israel with the exact same name which puts people in such situations and checks how they react.
Anyway, no. If my friend died in front of my eyes and the thing I thought about was his money, I'd be a horrible person already.

No, I hate taking money from people regardless. Whenever someone lends me money or gives me money for something I always make sure I'm being fair because I feel terrible whenever I rip someone off. This applies to dead people as well.

Man will go down into the pit, and all his thoughts will perish. The uneasy consciousness, which in this obscure corner has for a brief space broken the contented silence of the universe, will be at rest. Matter will know itself no longer. 'Imperishable monuments' and 'immortal deeds,' death itself, and love stronger than death, will be as though they had never been."

Please keep in mind that:
1) Technically, you have a right to the money.
2) I wrote "acquaintance" rather than "friend" on purpose. Perhaps it doesn't make a difference, perhaps it does.

Re: What would YOU do?
I'd say no too.
Because the acquaintance probably has a family. And I would ask the famili (after some weeks of course) for the money.
And I would try to rescue the person who has an heart attack rather than think about the money too. And if you try to rescue the person, then there will be other persons to help too (and ambulance). So it's unlikely that you'll be able to take the money without anyone noticing too.

The person just up and dies. There is no rescue. You were walking in a place where there are few passers-by.

Depends how well I know the guy I guess. Though, if I knew him well enough to give him $100, I might be a little too stricken to immediately take it.
But if there's absolutely no chance of being caught and no chance of rescue, then I think I'd consider it.

if i voted for yes, my reason is: hell yeah! i would take the money!! he's just my acquaintance!
if i voted for no, my reason is: no.. i still have respect for him/her..

I voted no, and my opinion is kind of a mix-up between Kleene's and Kor's.
No amount of apologies will express how much I regret it.

Re: What would YOU do?
Yes! Because he is just an acquantaince, therefore his family probably wouldn't know me either. How am I going to get my 100USD back? It's as if letting my money fly away. You can buy tons of things (like manga/cds/magazines) with 100USD. Although 100USD may not seem a lot to some, at least it's still money. :x.
Since there's no rescue, there's no helping it.
I get real careful with money. (Then again, I wouldn't lend an ACQUANTAINCE 100USD, so this kind of thing wouldn't happen to me IRL :b)

Well, if it's a heart attack, he doesn't just "die instantly".Abs. wrote: The person just up and dies. There is no rescue. You were walking in a place where there are few passers-by.
And on the other hand, even if he's "pretty much dead", then you still have the duty to help and call an ambulance. Otherwise it's a crime (at least here).
