I also noted that potential culprit Miyuki shares a Kanji in her name with the mother. Perhaps there is a connection there? Maybe the wife philandered a little too and Inubushi Sr ruined him?
Spoiler:
You are referring to becoming ? Interesting indeed. You got to imagine that the wife can't be a total angel about her husband's infidelities over the years - to the point that she'd even take in all the illegitimate children. It's likely her "helping out" of Tomoaki and Shinichi have something to do with what's going on here.
I wonder which police will appear this time since it didn't mention the place, usually Megure and Takagi don't appear in Heiji-related long series case like Mermaids, Furinkazan and Shiragami-sama.
Yamamura usually deal with ghost case like mountain witch, white witch, kappa but never appeared in Heiji's case, maybe Yamato, Uehera or even Koumei since Inubushi Castle looks like Japanese Castle, it's gonna like a war.

I get the feeling that since this case is all Ghosts and dogs...
The culprit is going to look at Heiji and Conan and mutter under his breath, "And I would've gotten away with it too! If it wasn't for you meddling kids..."
The surface of the pool Miwako drowned in was probably covered with a flammable oil and set alight to create the burning effect around the edge of the pool.
The Inubushi family dog may have been trained by the culprit to chase Keiji and Saki off the cliff. It is likely the dog was also trained to return to the house using the main road to avoid being seen by anyone using the animal trail. To achieve the burning effect on the dog, there are a couple of possibilities. The most appealing to me is fitting the dog with a custom "saddle" which has something that produces copious fog or smoke and flame colored LEDs to light up the smoke and create the appearance of fire. These setups are common at restaurants and nightclubs where they don't want real fire. Another possibility is Strontium aluminate (a glow in the dark compound) painted on the dog as in Hound of the Baskervilles, but I am not convinced it would look realistic.
For the trail of fire, ethanol or methanol poured in the tracks of the car/motor bike and set alight remotely would work and stay lit for the few minutes necessary to climb up the trail. It also wouldn't smell oily. The fire left at the the top of the hill seems kind of regularly spaced to me which suggests that perhaps the bike tracks were used and the still lit parts correspond to where the puddles of flammable liquid are deepest and thus there is more fuel to burn for longer. You can see the basic effect in this video, although these people did not use much methanol so it burnt out quickly and they colored the fire green.
I'll need more clues before making a full analysis of the tricks...

Hey, so not about the mystery, but about Ran in File 736:
"But you know, one of the real children could also hold a grudge... Since they were neglected for so many years."
Oh, Ran.
Hey, at least she's thinking of plausible possibilities. I don't see why this couldn't be the case, if it were real. Also, Miyuki just reeks of Kimie from the mermaid case. I wouldn't be surprised at all if she ended up being the culprit. She could end up as one of the lone survivors, but I'm more inclined to feel she's suspicious.
Maybe by Eri. Kogorou's always there for her. Eri, on the other hand, only pops up when she wants something. Like a birthday present.
Exactly. All the adopted children had at least their mothers to care for them. But not the other parent. Perfect set-up for Ran to kill off Eri's.......... hmm... Kuriyama?
This case has gotten interesting. There are two dogs. I hope that Ran and Kazuha are going to be level headed and notice it is a real dog rather than a ghost dog. I won't count on it though considering their fear of the supernatural. Will they run, fight back, or freeze in fear? I wonder if the dog showing up was the culprit's intention? It doesn't seem like a particularly good idea since they might discover the illusion's solution. The dog could have been attracted by feeding time and came of it's own volition. There doesn't seem to be a good reason for the dog to attack/frighten Ran and Kazuha except to distract the detectives, but the aren't anywhere nearby so I doubt it would work. Maybe the culprit wants to make a misleading impression on them. The killer could have gotten the dog to target the girls because that person judged the pair to be the least likely to see through the trick and thus make sure the detectives know there is in fact a "demon dog" running around.
Also, I notice the fire dog isn't leaving flaming prints so that must be a separate trick from the making-the-dog-appear-to-be-burning illusion.
Lol at Yamamura with the spoiler. Spheres/stones/beads whatever they are related to Satomi Hakkenden after all.
Still at least two files to go after this it seems before a new case...
