apparently student of my uni is going on strike for a day.  According to them it is because of our goverment limiting found for the education and put our students in devt. According info and my lecture they say this has been happened world wide so my question is:

did it happen to your country?

do you think this protest is worthy?

afaik my old uni didn't do anything like this since I think the government subsidy is still same as before although the staff did because they wanted better working conditions. Some people here might remember me complaining about how I didn't get my results for 4th year until like a month before I was supposed to start 5th year. ^^;

in general, if people are pissed off enough about something to go on a strike/protest about it, I'd say it's "worthy" of being protested. :P

The better question is who'll actually care if you go on strike, to put it bluntly. You're university students, in many unis attendance isn't mandatory anyway, so you'll just end up not having a class and not learn the material for that day (if enough students even show up for the prof to bother teaching that day). Strikes really only make sense in service sectors where the lack of people working due to the strike inconveniences other people, students not showing up for a day of class isn't gonna do a whole lot except give the professors an easy day.

@ Akonyl: the only thing I can do, as a French person, is snorting, in our country, strike is a national sport.

Though, limiting funds for university is something that shouldn't happen, because less and less students are going to go. But going on strike is not going to change a thing, and it's going to lead to more destruction (yeah, expect violent behaviour and stuff) than any good...
