I can handle a lot of things, but if all we're getting are monologues from one particular character, particularly one who is depressed/upset/etc., I lose it.

Hm, I'm not sure. Too much of anything is a bad thing really.
I guess what would happen to annoy me most would be too much action. I say this because a lot of series suffer from "If we don't have enough action, no one will like us!" so instead of story, we get unrealistic fights that last for 5 episodes -_-

Too much summarization.
It's one thing to summarize unimportant things vs. going on for pages about the color of someone's hair.. but to summarize everything just means that you don't get sucked into the story, because there really isn't a story there.

I'll go with description. While I don't doubt the others can ruin things, description's the only one that's ever really drove me crazy.
I don't really need to have a 5 page explanation of what the mice were eating, Brian Jacques.

Too much description. We once had to read a book for school which has about 120 pages of which the first 70 were only description
