It's difficult to explain the circumstances, but I have been told there are 52 States in the US and not 50
Since when?? Can someone help me

Did you count Alaska and Hawaii?
Just kidding, as far as my knowledge and that of Wikipedia goes, the USA has still only 50 states (and one federal district). However, as I not live there, local present news may prove me wrong^^

There are 50 states in the U.S. The "52" that they referred to is likely inclusive of Guam and Puerto Rico, two unincorporated territories under U.S. jurisdiction. Neither of them are states, just territories the U.S. happens to own.
