While I think good characters can save a crappy plot, I'm pretty sure a good plot can't save crappy characters.
But I'm a bit unsure who to vote for, so I'll vote later.

I'm between Kor and phreak's answers.
I think that good characters can save horrid plots but that good plots can't do the opposite, however I prefer when both are good.

You know, I think today I realized the reason behind my decision (yeah, that's right, I didn't really know why before :X)
I think I find the characters more important because they will constantly be there no matter what. Take DC for example. The plot may show up, it may be good or it may be bad...but until then we only really have the characters consistently staying around and keeping our interest. Considering you can probably count BO cases on your fingers, this shows volumes for what characters can do to keep an audience with a story.
That's my little philosophy for today

Without decent characterization/character development, stories aren't worth reading, in my opinion. I'm not a fan of contrived plots.
