Anyway, rescue arcs are blah. Best episodes of Dragonball were Tournament arcs, so can't knock them down.

Rescue arcs, I guess, though tournament arcs can get very repetitive.

Dark Tournament: Yu-Yu Hakusho tournament
and I'd be tied between rescue arcs and tournaments, I guess. While a lot of plot does tend to happen during tournaments, they're also the perfect chance to put in filler fights with people you've never seen before and don't care at all about.

Ahhh. I've seen part of the Dark Tournament, but I've seen a grand total of one episode of DBZ, so...

Dragonball, not Dragonball Z. DBZ had two tournaments, neither of which is what I'd really consider a tournament (one was just a normal DBZ fight, but in a ring, and the other had anyone of note fly off after 2 battles (not rounds, battles)). Dragonball, however, actually had tournaments, and the characters weren't ridiculously powerful. It was considered awe inspiring when they fired a kamehameha, for instance. And Goku didn't win until the end of the series.
