annoying problem

Well, you're pretty certain that you're well liked, right?  Have you tried reaching out to them?  Organized a day where you go see a movie or something with them?  One of the things that I've learned in school is that you need to stick with your friends.  If you reach out to them, they'll most likely be inclined to reach out to you.

to me, there's a difference between friends who I was friends with at school, and friends who I hung out with outside of school. Even though they're both good friends of mine, it boils down to the fact that I couldn't just sit around and talk with the school friends for long enough periods to justify actually hanging out with them, because though they were on my wavelength, I got along with em well and we had similar personalities, our interests just didn't mesh up quite right.

there's also the fact I've come across where due to summer being full of free time, you don't hang out with people as often because there's no sense of urgency. Now that I'm working, it almost seems like I'm hanging out with people more often, because every weekend it's like "oh man, gotta do something because if we don't we'll have to wait another 5 days!"

If you know who your real friends are, and you wanna hang out with them, just call them, organize some sort of meeting and Voila!
I'd like to help you, but I just can't see the real problem (Maybe Abs.'s post is the solution)

You are active when you have school. In vacations, you relax. Following this, it is not really confusing.

Yeah, during vacations, people also like to visit other people or drive away. So maybe they want to relax after that too and don't plan anything.

I also noticed myself, that people usually complain that nothing is planned with friends etc. (I also complained and others too of course). But on the other hand, no one did anything to change that. And after I started to ask people to do something, everyone wanted to follow
So, the problem could be, that people have time and do want to meet, but are too lazy to do the first step. Or don't want to be the organization,  because that's the one that has to call everybody and ask if they have time etc. (and that takes some time)

I don't recall having a problem like this. Every vacation, I'm the one who detaches myself from others.

Most vacations I do actually sometimes I feel like I see my friends less, mainly because we all tend to live miles apart, so getting together for something other than school is expensive and difficult. This year's actually the inverse, though; I saw a lot of my pals over the summer, but now they're back to school and i'm not, I see very little of them.

If you want to meet them try to make more contact yourself, you can't rely on them to contact you. That's all advise I can give you. Although I'm not in or never was in your situation, I only hanged out with my close friends after school, well sometimes with my regular classmates but most of the time only the two close classmates I had and my friends from other things.
