Strange Email.

I got a strange Email but it was in my hotmail which i never gave any site besides dctp and a few friends, so i shouldn't be getting spam or anything. the message is just a little weird and i wanted to know what you thought of it.

In short, stop implying anything. It might be used against you.

well it's almost certain the cause isn't from your friends, then it must be from dctp

dctp must be in actuality one of the current leading organisations in Nigeria that scams millions of people every year, under the mysterious alias: BO.

It could be that he randomly choose your email (random generator and spams it to every name combination).

Or you used it on a site that got hacked/sold their e-mail addresses etc. But since you said you didn't I guess that's not the case.

Another possibility is, that one of your friends got a virus or something. Then it's possible that all the email addresses your friend saved on his pc where "stolen" and are getting spam now.

But as long as you don't give your email to strange sites, you don't get massively spammed. Some spam always happens tho. Just don't click on it and delete it.
For example, I also get spam from "amazon.com", but I was never on amazon.com, but on amazon.de instead, so it's fake and I delete it instantly ;P

tbh you're probably being bombarded by these scam emails every second, it's just hotmail does a good job sending them to the 'junk' folder and destroying them all, but just occasionally one or two slips the system.

Xpon, your spammer there just dictionary attacked your email address. They probably sent out thousands of emails to addresses that didn't exist in the process. It doesn't mean your email leaked. But that's a fraud email, so don't send him money or reply.

Before you unnecessarily pull the racism card, there is an excellent reason they are often called Nigerian scams or 419 frauds after the Nigerian penal code.

Advanced Fee Fraud letters first surfaced in the mid-1980s around the time of the collapse of world oil prices, which is Nigeria’s main foreign exchange earner. Some Nigerians turned to crime in order to survive. Fraudulent schemes such as AFF succeeded in Nigeria, because Nigerian criminals took advantage of the fact that Nigerians speak English, the international language of business, and the country’s vast oil wealth and natural gas reserves—ranked 13th in the world—offer lucrative business opportunities that attract many foreign companies and individuals.

Because Nigeria is a common source of these emails and one of the earliest originators, it gets tagged with the name although Nigeria is hardly the only source these days. Additionally, these types of emails are often referred to as "Nigerian scams" and "419 scams" in professional security circles rather than the longer moniker "Advanced Fee Fraud".
