It's hard being a Jack of all trades...

Post by baka1412 »

This thread is very much my random babbler, you should probably skip this if you got no interest with someone else life story :D

Spoiler:
Jack of All trades : A generalist with many skill, but master of none...

Well, i though that phrase would be the best words to describe what and who i am . .

Since i graduated from my college about a month ago, i haven't been able to find a job which suit my desire and enjoyable..
I have been working as a News Translator during my college year, a staff at travel agency, and Barista at Starbuck but none seems appealing long enough for me...

And It's not because i got no skill... In fact, I'm very much adaptable and adequate with various working environments and duties, though the only problem is : I'm a master of none..

I'm pretty much afraid that I'm going to grow old without achieving anything, having a normal boring life without knowing what i really wanted to do, working at some place only because i had to work and not because i like the job...

Life sucks. I'm stuck in a similar limbo. I'm taking a gap year out before Uni, and i'm only spending half of it abroad, so I was hoping to work until then, but... no jobs, and such as there are go nowhere.

Not even that. It's the bloody recession. Nobody's taking on workers that they don't absolutely need.

Well, since you don't know exactly what you want, you can try different jobs for a short time and see which one you liked more. You won't probably find the most suitable job for you, but experiences different job atmospheres will help you to know what you'd like for the most suitable job :)

Spoiler:
I used to have similar problems when deciding major, I guess I'm basically okay with all subjects, but there were none that I'm truly great at... so the first two year I took everything :P LOL then I decide on two, and since I'm majoring in two, on top of two year experience in the financial market, I guess for now I can remain at this position, aim for a PhD as long as this job can support me... then decide later :P
What I'm saying is one thing at the time probably would be best, take one step at the time, try something first, see if you can polish your skill at it, I mean you're young, time is currently on your side ^^

Or i might become an entrepreneur, being my own boss seems enjoyable enough...

But to start my own business, I'm gonna need some money.. And to get that i need to work... Geez, this discussion is starting to running in circle isn't it..

LOL... I thought you have to start with a business ideal, choose a firm, location work, some paper works, then start asking the bank for money :P

Wait, do i really need that much of paper works and bureaucracies ?

Let say I got some money and starting a Cafe' (I do hope so...) ? Do i need to choose / create a firm ?

We're talking about a small and not so medium enterprise here...

Well you'd still need some paper work and licenses, but location is important, not to mention bidding for that location ....I'd say start at a canteen at colleges or university, easier that way :P

Eh? Reading this thread creeps me out... I remember one of my friends calling me "A jack-of-all-trades, but master of none"... I wonder what will happen to me if I finished college...

What was your major in universidad? Also, what's a barista?

Chin up baka1412, things will get better, the night is darkest just before the dawn.  Recessions don't last forever, the business cycle is a self stabilizer.

If what you studied in school didn't seem like what you truly want to do, maybe you should go back and explore more options
