How common is Digital TV broadcast and HDTV in your country

Another random question, but being a citizen of a small island nation without much technological advances taking place there, I'm very easily amazed by trivial things 
So, last month our public broadcaster (CyBC) went digital (DVB-T/H264) on a pilot basis. They broadcast the 2 existing channels, + rebroadcast of ERT (Greece's equivalent of CyBC) and Euronews + a newly created HD channel + they announced that digital-only channels will be created as soon as they achieve coverage of the whole country.
How is the situation in your country? Since most TV shows are released in HDTV rips, I guess most of Europe, the USA and Japan had HDTV for years...
