Political Discussion Topic

I just thought that we should have a topic for political discussions.
That may be a discussion about today's political issues, the differences, pros and cons of every party in your or a foreign country, the political system (democracy etc.) at all, the differences in politics and constitutions in different countries, historical politics, what you ever wanted to say about politics or everything else that is related to politics (you may even count how often I used "politics"/"political" in this post, if it makes you happy).
Just feel free to post.

That's going to be dangerous and may cause a little war so...I'M IN!!!
though I'd rather not be the first person to post something here...and my only opinions and knowledge are about Israel, so I don't even know if someone is interested about them...

Aren't we all in some philosophical sense?

My uncle and my grandparents discussed the same topic this evening. I don't know how many of you live in Europe, but Obama is very popular here. Very popular. More popular than any European politician. Bush on the other hand is the exact opposite. Probably he is less popular than any European politician - well, except those who get involved with child pornography and similar things. You shouldn't forget that the Nobel Prize is given by people from Sweden, after all (and that it is a hit against all Bush fans in the world. This was probably also one reason).
I think (as a European^^) Obama is similar to Kennedy. Both of them gave/give the world a feeling of change and reform. We don't know if Kennedy would have been successful (therefore his glory is still unbroken). Obama still has to fulfil most of his promises, but he is definitely taking steps in the right direction.
Therefore I see the Nobel Prize not as a reward of the things he did but instead as a reassurance that he is on the right way and as a demand to go on and make himself worthy of the Prize. I hope he does.
If I'm right, Obama said something similar in his speech.

the fact that the nobel peace prize is awarded as a political statement to a man who compromises the security of his own country and other countries is just stupid

It seems we have a different understanding of peace.
To me, peace is the state when two states have friendly relationships and, if possible, also form a free-trade-zone. An example would be the states of the EU.
For a definition of other states see the spoiler.
If you are in peace with another nation you do not have to have a high security at all. It is also well-known that, to get to the state I described as peace, you should open up yourself and try to solve any existing disagreement (Kairo speech). A high security will therefore only be in the way of getting to the status named peace.
So, if Obama "compromises" the USA's security, it is nothing the Peace Nobel Prize Committee should get angry about but instead something they should prize.
Also, I would be interested, which are the countries you mentioned?

If the states have not declared official war but still fights take place, attacks happen and assaults are common we have an unofficial war. An example would be Palestine (while no war is happening)
At first when I read this I thought "it's ISRAEL!" but that's due to my israelien (that's not a word) education...it's like Jerusalame. We say it's the capital city, yet no country wants to acknowledge that, personally I couldn't care less cause I hate Jerusalame anyway, it's just a bunch of historical stuff lying around.
some countries don't even acknowledge Israel as Israel, but as you said, Palestine.
Regarding Obama, I had an english teacher from the US who was fairly disappointed from him. I think that a lot of people are. In Israel, they probably wanted him to take sides with them...but even with his "side" I don't think the conflict in our zone will ever be solved. There are attacks every week from Gaza. A soldier was kidnapped more than 1000 days ago and he is still a prisoner somewhere. The Hamas will never agree for peace and will always want more. I don't think there should be war, but no one accepts the fact that we live here since we first got here, and I doubt they will start now. While war isn't likely to happen anytime soon, a war WILL happen sometime because both sides will get into other disagreements again.
hmm...I did slide from Obama...what I know from Obama, is that he talks a lot and he talks how he doesn't want war. Every month now, Israel says "We are going to attack Iran's nuclear bases" and Iran says "Yeah, we dare you." and the US says "Don't attack Iran." and Israel is like "Ok." how long will it take until people stop to listen to Obama?
