LOST

Post by CoolKid3 »

From wikipedia

Lost is an American serial drama television series. It follows the lives of plane crash survivors on a mysterious tropical island, after a commercial passenger jet flying between Sydney, Australia, and Los Angeles, United States, crashes somewhere in the South Pacific. Each episode typically features a primary storyline on the island as well as a secondary storyline from another point in a character's life, though other time-related plot devices change this formula in later episodes.
Quoting wiki is the only way I can think of to provide a nice intro...
This series reminds me a lot of Detective Academy Q - the Kamikakushi Village episodes (because of the quarantine thing and experimentations + the secluded setting) and Hell Maestro episodes (because the mastermind approached the good guys)...

Just began watching Season 3 last night (I'm really far behind)...
Spoiler:
Could someone tell me if the Fake Henry Gale (Ben) is the leader of "The others"?
I was rather shocked when I saw he was the one talking to Jack's Group in the last episode of Season2.. Then the 1st few scenes in Episode3 kinda confirms my suspicion..

I wish he's not cause he looks weak but he's very bright..
Hey ranger, I'm expecting your theories here...

Hi coolkid :P

I'm afraid if I post some of my theories, I might spoil some stuff for you, as I am caught up with the series (I'm anxiously awaiting for Season 6 in 2010 :D)

Regarding your questions, I guess I'll answer, read at your own discretion though, I personally hate reading spoilers so...
Spoiler:
Yes, Henry Gale is the leader of the others, his real name is Ben Linus.  He is a rather bugeyed "weak" guy, but oh my is he manipulative...he is such an awesome character, I rank him  as my second favorite character of the series.
Trust me, he makes LOST just awesome.

Of course...there's someone higher up in the ranks than ol Ben ;)
I'll just post a list of the most prevalent mysteries in the series -

1. Smoke Monster
Spoiler:
- What is it?
- Is it "good" or "bad"?
- What did Locke see in the smoke monster (regarding first episodes, when he says "I saw a bright light"?
- Does it truly kill people? (Remember Locke being pulled down through the hole, and his confidence that he will survive
2. The Hatch
Spoiler:
-What is it's true purpose?
- Is it a research facility, or merely a psychological experiment?
- What was the quarantine door supposed to mean?
- The revelance to the numbers...?
3. The Numbers
Spoiler:
4,8,15,16,23,42

Why are they important?
Do they have some sort of mystical aura..?  It seems to bring bad luck and bring people to the island.
Everything is interconnected with the numbers, which leads to my next topic
4.  Relations
Spoiler:
Everyone seems to be part of everyone else's background.
Were these people just coincidentally on the same flight, Oceanig 815?
Or were they...brought here by some higher power?

Coincidence Vs Faith
5. Rivalries
Spoiler:
-What do the rivalries symbolize?
of course the major rivalry is between the two leaders, Locke and Jack, one of faith and one of science
(Not much to add to here, it's just a relevant motif you will notice among many chars in the show)
6.  The Island
Spoiler:
Where exactly is it?
How come no one has saved the "Losties"?
What type of powers (faith) or scientific benefits (science) does the Island give?
How does it have the power to heal...Is it by destiny or merely scientific reasoning?
Locke seems to think one reason, while Jack seems to ignore the incredible healing rates.
7.  The Natives
Spoiler:
...How exactly old is this island?
The natives, what is their backstory?
What type of civilization lived here?
You can see the Hatch and many other scientific stations, which brings up a modern technological society living here..
and then you have the savage native like culture..what is really going on?

Okay, I spent a lot of time typing, lol.
This is just a mere glimpse of the numerous mysteries I can pull off from Lost, feel free to ask questions coolKid, or any other hidden Lostie fans in DCTP.

Here are my questions and comments;

1. Have you tried gambling the Lost Numbers on lottery? (Just curious)
- Maybe when the right sign comes, I'll try my luck..
2. How big is the island really? (In square meters)
- In the 1st few episodes of the 1st season, I thought it was easy to explore...
3. What's with the Freakin' animals?
Spoiler:
The Polar Bear and the Black Horse... As far as I can remember, I haven't encountered any SNAKE in the series...
4. Is Dharma Initiative a Government Project? If so, what countries are involved?
- Funding is quite an issue...

These questions are just my initial questions... Hope you can enlighten me...

1. Lol oh gosh no Cool-kid, I'll end up like Hurley...those numbers are nothing but bad luck!!!!!
2.  The island is pretty big, I think it takes 3 days to travel from one side to the other...there are many undiscovered places in the island so far
3.  The animals-
Spoiler:
As you know, the Dharma Iniative is an organization that has something to do with scientific research, and there is evidence that they brought along polar bears with them to research more about the island..

The Black Horse...now that's a mystery.  A lot of theories say that it could have been the Smoke Monster, as people have deemed the monster able to shapeshift forms.
4.  The Dharma Initiative...I've watched 5 seasons and I still don't know a lot of information about them, they are truly enigmatic, but as you continue with the series, more pieces of the puzzle will be connected.

I hope this thread wouldn't end up as "Coolkid and Ranger" thread...

Other Lost fans, come on... Don't be shy...

I'll be watching Season 3 this coming weekend and I'm quite sure more questions would cross my mind again... (The more I watch, more questions pile up)

anyways, what do you think is the biggest similarity of Lost and DC?
The only thing I can think of so far is that both series have interesting and powerful characters...

I watched Lost once and had the same opinion as Statler and Waldorf did on Family Guy.

I'm currently halfway Season3... Just need some clarifications...

Relations - never saw this coming...
Spoiler:
1. Are Claire and Jack siblings for real?

2. Are the French woman (Russeau - i dunno the correct spelling) and Ben a couple?
Alex is their daughter, right?
Btw, my current favorite character is Desmond
Spoiler:
I like the way he tries to cheat the death of Charlie... (Will Charlie die for real?)
I personally believe we create our own destiny...

my god, do you really like spoilers this much?  If I tell you, you won't nearly get the same catharsis when you watch the episodes and find out by yourself.

Pardon me for double posting but I really want to know what season this episode (see below) from.

I was trying to watch Lost Season 4 but the bootleg copy my brother borrowed from his classmate can’t be played in our DVD that’s why I opt to watch TV. Then I was trying to find a nice show and discovered the AXN Beyond is airing Lost but I don’t know what Season they’re airing.

This is all I can remember. Please tell me what season this is from. (I’m thinking its early part of Season 5)
Spoiler:
* Jack + Kate were held captive – + the journal
* Locke + Ben + Richard – going to Jacob
* Sawyer + Juliet were also captured (I think by Dharma)
* Hugo + Jin + Unknown Male – talking to the man talking in the Dharma videos

Then
Jack + Sayid + Richard + Unknown Female – dove to some kind of place where the hydrogen gas was kept
Sawyer + Juliet +Submarine then they were reunited with Kate
Locke asked Ben + Richard to accompany him to Jacob so he can kill him (End of Episode)
Hehe, Ranger please enlighten me on this one… Now I know what it feels like to be spoiled by spoilers. There are too many Richards in that episode. It seems to be the setting for each group of characters is a different timeline.

that's season 5, the newest one. :P
Yeah...I highly advise you to watch the ones before it, maybe check some video streaming websites, because it's probably super confusing with the multiple timelines and stuff.
