It is TOO HOT!!!

(Please excuse Miaka complaining. It's not actually important.)
It is about 87F in my house with all available cooling devices in full operation. (OK, "all cooling devices" amounts to two beat-up fans, one of which is mostly dead.) I am melting! It is TOO HOT!!! And I cannot figure out what to do about it!! I wish I had A/C.....but it is not installed in our apartment and a small window A/C unit costs about $100 at Target. For the smallest one. My last paycheck didn't even come to that, and we have to pay the rent. (Stupid economy. Husband and I both work in commission-based jobs in "luxury" fields--I'm a massage therapist and he sells electronics.)
I want to escape the heat!!
Well, we're going to see a movie--Ponyo-- tonight, but that's still hours away. And I have an appointment in an air-conditioned office in about an hour, but that will be short. Then we go to my mother's house, but Mom doesn't have A/C either....
Blah, it is too hot!!!

this thread gave me flashbacks to that Sears air conditioning commercial that used to be on so much
I cannot live another day without air conditioning.
Says tomorrow's gonna be hotter!
Hotter?
Like yesterday.
Yesterday? Yesterday you said you'd call Sears.
I'll call today!
You'll call now.
I'll call now.
What's the paper say about tomorrow?
Another scorcher!
Cool.

Oh, god, I remember that commercial. Which means it's at least 5-6 years old....
Interestingly enough.....my husband works for Sears. I still don't think we can afford an air conditioner, though. But maybe we can get a new fan.....

yeah, definitely longer ago than 5-6 years, it was sometime in the 90s so it's at least 10 years ago.
also, watch out for getting too many fans, you may succumb to fan death.

pretty sure it was 90s, but for all I know it could have played into the 2000s.
part of the reason I knew it was because of how much it played, it aired for a really long time. Also, someone reminded me of it a few weeks ago.

Yeah, late 80s to early 90s at the least....I can't remember if it's on the Thundercats tape or the Disney Afternoon tapes.... When I was little we used to tape TV shows, and my littlest brother watched them constantly for a while when I was in hs/college. Usually these were tapes of TV shows from before he was born or from when he was WAY too little to pay attention to the TV. TMNT, Duck Tales, TaleSpin, Darkwing Duck, Thundercats....all the great cartoons from when I was growing up.... Haven't seen them recently. And the new TMNT is terrible!
Oddly, my husband says he's never seen that commercial.... I suppose it's possible that it didn't play up here and was on the Thundercats tape from 1989 in Texas..... That would make sense, actually, as air conditioning isn't nearly as vital/widespread here. You don't need it as much. My family has lived in the same house for about 16 years or more now, and it has never had a working air conditioner. The house we rented the first year we moved here did not have air conditioning either. This is New England and it's much more important for more of the year to have heat than air conditioning.

if he hasn't seen the commercial, then your husband's missing out on a pivotal part of film history, imo.
though it does make sense living up in the northeast. But, I live in MD, so we have the awesome ability to have both annoyingly hot summers and annoyingly cold winters, so we get both commercials.
And now I'm thinking of Thundercats.

If your husband works for Sears he should get a discount for any purchase.

I'm really curious what you thought of Ponyo. Did you enjoy it?
Sorry to hear about it being so hot! Where I am right now it's 12°C (54°F), so if anything I have the opposite problem.

Hmmm..... I don't know... but usually I don't feel the heat much..... even when sitting on the second floor of a house at 35 degree Celsius outside.... probably because I kept telling myself it's not hot... XDDDD but really, it works for me most of the time.... LOL

Ponyo was AWESOME!!! So cute!!! *^_^* The dub is actually quite good, though I am looking forward to getting the DVD so I can see what the actual Japanese was. I was REALLY glad that I got the chance to go see Ponyo in the theater, even if it meant a half-hour drive to do so.
Mid-50s F isn't really that cold....spring/fall weather. Comfortable, though you might want long sleeves or a jacket. I wouldn't consider that cold.... what part of the world are you in?
Yes, nights were still quite hot, even with both fans running, and it definitely did make it hard to sleep. We got fed up with it around Wednesday and bought an air conditioner. It has made life MUCH more pleasant. Now we can at least keep the place below 80F.
I appologize for the odd long silence, but I took my computer to get tuned up on Tuesday and I didn't have it for 2 days, and then my work week started. Now I have my weekend, so I can get back to my usual computer activities.

My dad has a terrible habit of setting the thermostat to "OMFG, IT FEELS LIKE THE SUN IN HERE."
I prefer 72 degrees, for the record.
