These questions are obviously musically oriented which makes them different from most other more general colleges. They all have these sorts of questions. Some are stranger than others (University of Chicago). Applying to a college/university in the US is extremely similar to applying to a job, only a bit more drawn out.Kor wrote: So......is it like this in EVERY college application in the US, or this mass of nonsensical questions is only in Berklee?
Basically, what they are looking for in the answers is someone who is dedicated and serious about music and wants to go professional in some context. That's how their school gets a reputation: by the names their graduates make for themselves in the music world. The other thing they are trying to do is find out about you as a person. They want an answer that shows sophistication and illustrates very clearly the type of person you are, with substance. You are selling yourself to the college. Basically, you have to convince them you are your-patron-deity's gift to Berklee and that you will bring a unique flair and awesomeness that no one else can offer.Kor wrote: Dunno what's harder. Getting accepted to Berklee or answering all these questions. Seriously, I can answer most of these questions with one or two words, but I don't think short answers will satisfy them.
Try to be memorable when answering questions. For the long answer, weave a story if you can.
I'm honestly surprised you aren't applying to more schools in the US. You write and have a publisher, you have musical talent, and your comments about DC stuff show your intelligence. I would consider other US liberal arts schools as well.
