Note From Author: Alright... I know, I wanted to try and pick up on my old works, but it's hard! I just couldn't do it. xD

Maybe someday... but for now, I'll stick with a new one... just a few mysteries. I'll see what story I can pull out of my ass as I get a feel for this writing biz once more. Phweee~!

...

Also note, I may be taking a bit longer to get to the good stuff depending on the time I post things. xD Things may get separated; some shorter than others; etc. I'll simple try to bring you quality AND quantity! Yes? x3

Conan yawned, laying back in his bed as he relaxed. He was in comfy clothes, a thin, white short sleeve shirt and khaki pants. They both fit perfectly to his size, and he really had to thank Ran for buying his this outfit. Since he had only his old school uniform and a few pieces left from his Elementary days, he could never find anything that he liked. Those clothes were really outdated; some where obviously from way back when, such as his fan base shirts for his 'favorite giant monster and fairy couple'.

He stretched a bit and sighed, closed his eyes. Uncle had not gotten a case in so long... it had been nearly a weak. All that there was were the 'stalking' and 'information gathering' jobs. No murder mysteries. It was not like it was not nice to relax every once in awhile, but with this much time from being away from a mystery, he swore he was going to crack!

"Gaaah~!" Conan cried as he sat up and turned to his night stand. He strapped on his wrist watch, checking the time before searching about for his cap. Why waste such a nice day? Might as well search for a mystery novel at the library that he HADN'T read yet, or visit that nut job professor. He grabbed his cap and placed it on his head before grabbing his cell phones and skateboard.

Heading towards his room door, he slid it open, only to find a pair of lovely; long legs right in his path. He blinked, then looked up at Ran as she looked back down at him. "Ah- ah! R-Ran-neechan?" He asked, blinking those big, blue eyes of his. Ran smiled and bent down to Conan, handing him a flier she had picked up. "Conan-kun! I found this flier hanging up outside. It's a Kid Detective Game." She explained.

Conan blinked and took the flier before giving an unsatisfied look at the flier. Kid Detective Game, huh? Sounded boring. None of their mysteries would be able to outwit him; he was a deductive genius! The Sherlock of the Nineteenth Century! Ran smiled, reaching down to point out something on the poster. "There's a prize too! They say the winning kids will be able to participate in a nationwide contest. I thought it was neat! Almost like a beauty pageant, but for detectives!" She said with a smile. This perked Conan's interest ever so slightly, of course. A chance to prove his worth! But... he would be throwing himself out into plain sight. If the Black Organization were to see that he had won a detective against the best of his age group in Japan, well... they might just remember his face from somewhere. Especially at this point, when they had their sights on Uncle... if they found out...

He handed the flier back to Ran and shook his head. "I can't, Ran-neechan! I'm not that great!" He said in a childish tone with a pout. "Plus... I night make a fool of myself..." Conan falsely admitted before lowering his head ever so slightly.

Ran took the bait. She knelt in front of his with an 'Ahhh~!' and placed her hand on his shoulder. "Conan... that never stopped you before... Take the flier for now, and if you change your mind, tell me. I'll gladly sign you up." She said before giving him a reassuring smile. Conan nodded, smiling big up to Ran. "Okay, Ran-Neechan! I'm going to head out for a bit, I'll be back~!" He said. Ran nodded and got back up, moving out of his way. "Okay, then. Be back in a few hours for dinner!" She said as Conan headed out the door. With a goodbye,, he was already heading down the steps in his sneakers.

Once out in the fresh air, he looked to the poster once more before sighing and hopping onto his skateboard. Stepping on the button on the skateboard's grip, he closed her eyes for a moment. He heard the whirring of the gears in the skateboard's solar powered engine. He readied himself before he suddenly shot off, out onto the streets towards the professor's house.

Conan finally reached the Professors house as he kicked off his skateboard and caught it mid air. He pressed the button of the buzzer at the gate and waited for a response. He got one as a crash and a short 'fwoop' sounded. He caused the Professor to drop something chemically unstable... he drooped his head slightly, and animated teardrop falling from his forehead.

From the little white box in front of the gate gate the Professor's voice. "Ah... who is it?" He called.

"It's me, Professor!" Conan responded without hesitation or much care for stating his name.

Nearly immediately after Conan had stated that it was indeed, him, the professor responded. "Ah! Conan! Good timing! Come on in!"

Conan responded with a simple 'Kaaay!' before heading through the gate and into the crazy nut's humble abode. He looked around, then simply followed the burnt smell all the way to where the professor was in the library. He quirked a brow as he saw the professor covered in what seemed to be charcoal or sulfur.

"Ahh, Shinichi! How have you been? Solving a lot of mysteries I hope?" Agasa asked as he finished cleaning up the glass on the floor and disposing of it." Conan simply tilted his head to the side and sighed. "Hardly. There hasn't been one good mystery in a week!" He stated as he took a seat in one of the lounge chairs in the library.

"Really? That's strange. Kogoro seems to always have some mystery on his hands... especially when he's around you..." The professor stated as he grabbed a cloth to clean the black substance from his face. "Hey, Shinichi. What's that paper in you hand?" He asked suddenly as he finally got a good look at his old neighbor.

"Eh? This?" Conan asked as he looked at the flier. He had forgotten in was still in his hand. Was, was he getting rusty! He needed a good mystery fast! "It's a flier for some Kid Detective Competition. Ran gave me it earlier."

"That sounds like fun, especially for the Sherlock of the nineteenth Century." Agasa stated with a cheesy grin. "Unless you think it would be too boring for you?"

"It's not like I'm not interested... even something small by this point would make me happy." Conan said with a sigh. "The winner would compete for a nationwide championship. I don't want all of that attention on me." He stated before eying the Professor. "When I saved uncle from being sniped by them before, they all saw me. If they saw that I was a detective genius, it would not take them very long to put one and one together." He stated before getting up from the lounge chair and searching over the books on the professor's library shelves.

The professor was unable to come up with a retort. Shinichi had a perfectly responsible reason for not competing. He sighed, then started work on cleaning his tabletop. "Ah, that reminds me. A letter came in for you. It's on the table in the living room."

"For me...?" Conan asked in interest before heading right off towards the living room. It took him a bit of searching, by lo and behold, there it was on the coffee table. He looked to the addressee, then opened the letter up. This letter was indeed for him; Shinichi.

He took the letter out and looked at the writing carefully. His eyes went wide for a moment before her lowered his head and brought a loose fist to his chin in thought. He headed back to the library, reading over the text a few times. "This is interesting...~" Conan cooed before looking up to the Professor. "I'm being challenged."

"Challenged?" Professor Agasa perked up, walking over to Shinichi as he looked to the letter. "By who? Heiji?" He asked before pocketing removing his glasses and wiping the soot from them.

"No." Conan said calmly as he lifted the piece of paper up to the light to see the watermark. "It's really expensive paper, someone rich." He muttered. "They didn't leave a name, so it must be someone I don't know...?" He hummed to himself before folding the letter up again.

"Hakuba is rich, isn't he?" Agasa asked before returning the glasses to his face and blinking, his eyes adjusting to the lenses before he looked down at Conan again.

"No. It's an Italian." Conan said before sighing. "Hakuba went abroad to Europe, but the letter is riddled with Italian sayings. 'Buona Sera, Arrivederci, Grazie; all were common Italian greetings. They were left there on purpose for him to notice this fact. Whoever it was, they wanted him to know they would be separate from the expected group; a Foreigner. They wanted to be noticed.

Agasa took a few moments to brood on this before noticing something. "Can you at least figure out the sex of the person? Like, if they used 'Atashi' or 'Boku'.

"Whoever it was used a neuter version of 'I'; "Watashi". Maybe they're afraid that I want take them seriously?" Conan thought before his expression became dumbstruck. If that were the case, then, a woman.

"What were they challenging you to, anyways?" Agasa asked before heading back to his mess to finish cleaning up.

Conan pocketed the letter as he followed the professor to his table of chemicals. He stared at the various colors in boredom, picking up two of the test tubes, one with a pink solution in it, the other have a strange dirty orange color. "The competition I was just talking about, actually." He said before tipping the pink test tube towards the other. "I suppose I should look further into it..."

"H-Hold on, Shinichi! Weren't you just saying that it was a bad idea?" Agasa argued before blinking. He stared at the test tubes, then suddenly panicked as he reached out, but was too last this time. The two chemicals met and instantly the orange test tube bubbled up over the rim. Conan cried out in surprise as bubbles foamed over his jacket sleeve. As they stopped, his expression became dumbstruck, staring at the mess. He hated chemicals...

"I only want to find out who this person is. I won't draw any attention as long as I fail early after meeting this Italian." He explained as Agasa took the test tube from him and wiped his hand off for him. "If I have Heiji join, he could become a cover to make me seem like a novice in comparison." He explained.

The competition was to take place at the Beika Hotel. Ran had signed Conan up for the competition like she had offered, and even walked with him down to the competition. Heiji accompanied the two of them as Conan had planned out. The competitions was for all ages under the age of 18, and Heiji was still in High School, after all.

"Thanks for coming, Heiji..." Conan sighed as they reached the entrance to the Hotel. His hands shoved into his pockets, the stared up at the tall building, only being able to guess what kind of task they had to whittle the large crowd down. Something incredible simple that would not take too long, perhaps.

"Anytime Ku-! I- I mean... Conan..." Heiji grinned weakly as Ran gave him a suspicious look. As they walked inside, the crouched down a bit, whispering to the little boy next to him. "But why challenge you to such a kiddy game? It's not like it's an actual murder mystery. It's set up to have an end, where as-"

"In and actual crime scene, you may not be able to find conclusive evidence." A girls voice chimed from behind the two of them. Then blinked and turned around to look as a short, dark haired girl in a simple black dress and matching sun hat. The dress fit his waist and hips perfectly before flowering out into a skirt loose enough for move freely, having down just below her ankles, the sleeves covering most of her forearms. There was not V-neck to the dress, it was in no way meant to be revealing, but conservative. Her dark eyes fell over the two of them gently, a friendly smile curving her thin, pink lips. "In which case, you would need to have the culprit mistakenly admit to the crime, possibly by faking the end of a mystery and setting them up in order to catch them in the act of procuring a hidden piece of evidence."

"Ah... yeah." Heiji blinked, shocked that the girl had taken the words right from his mouth and poked his nose into their conversation. Conan smiled not match the girl's friendly expression, walking up to her and holding his hand out to shake her hand. "Hello! I'm Edogawa Conan! You're really smart!" He acting the child part perfectly, a big grin on his face.

The girl cooed and took his hand into hers. "De'Stephano Violetta." She replied before looking to Heiji, expecting to hear his introduction next.

Heiji stood up straight, grinning at the girl. "Hattori Heiji: Great Detective of The West." He said valliantly. Conan looked back at Heiji as if to say, 'Oh, please...' before looking down at his hand. The calluses on her hand worried him. He felt his stomach twist as he thought of the situation for a moment. Wait... 'Violetta' was an Italian name!

He looked at the the girl suspiciously before hearing Ran calling to them. "A-Ah! Coming Ran!"Conan called back before runnign off, Heiji saluting to the girl before chasing after Conan. Conan never let his mind slip from the strange girl, keeping it as one of his priorities. Ran helped them get their numbers for the competition before siting to the side to watch as the event started.

The hotel Convention Room was packed full of people of all ages. There were a lot of little kids, but mostly teenagers. A man stood in the front of the room with a microphone in his hand, grinning at all of them. "Hello, and welcome to this years Kid Detective Competition!" He called out. The crowd cheered in excitement; well, mostly just the little kids. The man went over simple rules such. Simple things, such as not bullying or hurting others, no cheating, and more. "Now, let us begin! At the doors leading out at the room are two of my assistants. The cards give a clue to a location. There are stamps at each location in plain sight. To win, you must have all five stamps, one from each location. Good luck!" The crowd cheered, and slowly they all filed out.

Conan sighed, looking at the first hint with a dumbfounded expression. "A... Nursery Rhyme." He chuckled stupidly in his head he his lips twitched.

Heiji crouched down beside him, looking at the front and back of the card. "An acorn rolled down and down, He suddenly fell into a pond. Then came the loaches, Hi boy! Come play with us! The acorn enjoyed playing with them. But he soon began to cry, I want to go back to the mountain. The loaches didn't know what to do." He recited before chuckling.

Conan sighed, then turned the card over. There was another hint. On it was a symbolwith the word 'Tantei' (Detective) just below it. Conan chuckled then started walking. "It's hard not to win..." He mocked.

Heiji blinked, looking at the card, then Conan. He quickly sped after him with a grumpy expression. "Ahoh! It was your idea to join a child's game!" He commented before scooping the little kid up. Conan struggled a bit before glowering at Heiji, hanging limp in his arm. "Oh, I get it. You had this same clue during the bombing case awhile back." He said quietly as he looked to the card. "Not only that, but you used to go to that school, didn't you, Kudo?"

"Ah. It's not far from here. Now, could you hold me in a more dignified position?" Conan hissed, giving Heiji a cold look.

"Dignified? You're just a little brat." Heiji chuckled, then pocketed his card before letting Conan down and crouching, holding his arms open for a piggy back ride. Conan sighed, then climbed onto his back.

"Why do you insist on carrying me?" He asked coldly.

"Why do you insist of acting so full of yourself?" Heiji retorted. There was a giggle behind them as they both perked up, then looked back at the girl in black for earlier. Conan still had a suspicion of the girl, but Heiji was carefree. "Hey, hey! What's so funny?" She asked, a grumpy expression on his face.

"You two act like brothers." She said with a smile before walking closer to them. "I'm afraid I am not too familiar with this area. Is there a Detective High School in Japan?" She asked before looking to her card blankly.

Conan shook his head quickly. "Uh-uh! It's a play of words. If you switch the 'Tan' and 'Tei' around, you get 'Teitan High School.'" He explained. "We're going there now if you want to come with us."

"Ahoh! Why do we have to help this girl out?" Heiji started.

Conan covered Heiji's ear and he moved close to whisper something. Heiji perked up, then glared at the little kid. "You'd better be right at this, Kudo." He hissed under his breath.

"E-Excuse me...?" Violetta grinned weakly at the two of them, really, very confused.

They finally reached the last location. Conan looked the the card again, bored out of his mind. His eye caught Violetta as he seemed deep in thought about the card before her. "This is a Japanese Nursery Rhyme, correct?" She asked before looking to Heiji and Conan from some kind of hint.

"Ah. It's one of the longer ones." Conan said before pocketing the card again. "Let's go back to the hotel, horsey." He said before giving Heiji a cruel grin.

"Ahoh! I'm no horse!" Heiji shouted back at Conan.

"Oh really?" Conan looked defiantly at Heiji as if to say, 'Want to test that theory?'

Heiji growled. "I swear, you and Hakuba both!" He huffed.

"Him and Hakuba what?" Heiji went stiff at the familiar voice behind him. Conan looked over to the brown haired boy and grinned wide, waving. "Hakuba! What are you doing here?"

Hakuba flicked a card from his pocket and smiled. "A Detective Game. Usually I wouldn't join such childish things, but I heard Kaito joined as well..." He looked to the card in wonder before walking up the the stand laid out for participants and stamping his card.

"Kaito?" Conan asked, perplexed. "You mean... Kaito Kid?"

"No, no. Kaito Kuroba. A student from the school I transferred to." Hakuba said with a frown. It was obvious he had wished he could say the opposite.

"Ah... excuse me..." Violetta pushed into the conversation, looking between all of them before lifting a gold chain from around her neck. Out came a small clock face. She looked at the time, then to the group. "We have twenty minutes left."

"It'll take about ten minutes to walk from here." Conan said. Hakuba led the way for Heiji and Violetta and he and Conan talked to each other. Heiji was still fuming over the Detective Showdown nearly a year ago when Hakuba had insulted him. It was only after a few minutes that Conan's eyes led to a few men behind them. Both were wearing black suits with bowler caps and red dress shirts. His stomach twisted again as his eyes went wide. "Heiji..." He whispered so that it was out of ear shot of the two others near them. "The people following behind us."

Heiji glanced carefully by using Conan as an excuse to move his head. "Ah... all in black like this girl. Do you think...?"

Conan shook his head quickly. The Black Organization would not wander about so obviously in the daylight during a public event. No, these men were probably with the girl they were with, Violetta. Bodyguards perhaps. That meant that she had some high standing from where she came from. "Ms. Violetta." Conan chimed happily. "Are you perhaps from Italy?"

Violetta perked up, a little surprised. "Ah, yes. How did you know?"

"You don't know Japan very well, so I thought you were a foreigner. Your name is Italian, isn't it?" Conan grinned at her childishly, waiting for her reaction.

Violetta smiled sweetly before looking ahead once more. "It's true. I'm from Italy. This is my first time in Japan. I came here to find someone, but it seems he is much too busy."

Heiji blinked, then chuckled. "You're the one that sent that letter?"

Conan panicked as tried to cover Heiji's mouth before he could finish. Violetta looked up at Heiji in a bit of surprise before her expression became much more serious. "I sent a letter...?" She asked, very voice becoming cold and demanding suddenly.

Heiji tensed up before chuckling nervously. "Y-Y'see, uh... Kudo hasn't been home for a few months." He started weakly.

"So you read his mail?" Violetta scowled, her anger soon becoming known. She no longer looked like the innocent little princess. She stopped were she was standing, fire in her eyes.

S-Scary... Was what all three of the detectives thought as they watched this transformation. "H-He ask-" Heiji started before Conan wormed his way out of Heiji's grip. He dropped down to to the ground and smiled up at the girl. "I'm Shinichi's relative! He went away on a big case, so he has me read his mail to him over the phone. He wanted Heiji to bring me here to see if he could find the person that was looking for him to tell him he was really sorry."

The voice of the innocent child caught Violetta's attention as she blinked and stared at him. "His relative?" She tested the words on her tongue before sighing. "I really wanted to meet him..." She said softly before smiling down at the little kid. "I'm sorry for getting so upset. Thank you for telling me the situation."

Hakuba gave Heiji a victorious smile. "Hot-headed fool. A kid can outwit you."

"H-Hot...!?" Heiji fumed at glared at Hakuba. "Ahoh!-"

Heiji was about to go on a rampage when Conan noticed the time on Violetta's necklace. "Ten minutes..." He read bluntly. Everyone went silent for a moment as Conan sighed and started walking off. "It's a five minute walk from here. Stop wasting our time, Heiji~!"

Violetta blinked, then giggled sweetly. "Oh my. He seems more mature than both of you." She mused before following after that kid. If she could not find the legendary Kudo Shinichi, then she would settle with his relative.

Heiji blinked, then growled and followed after the group, Hakuba following close by. "It's strange, though." Hakuba muttered before looking to Heiji. "Maybe you and Conan swapped personalities somehow..."

"AHOH!"
