What's on his neck? File 827+ Discussion

So most of us probably remember that in file 812 it's pointed out that Okiya has never revealed his neck, always wearing turtlenecks and such that cover his neck. However, in the same file it's shown that there is nothing on his neck -
http://www.dctp.ws/V77-Reader/V77-6Read/A10.html . With this alone its technically possible (although not likely) that this is simply a red herring and means absolutely nothing, but it's essentially confirmed that there's something to it in file 811, in which Haibara tries to reveal his neck -
http://www.dctp.ws/V77-Reader/V77-5Read/A15.html . The last scene also confirms that it must be on the front of his neck, as it would be impossible for her to see anything on the back without waking Okiya up. But since we can clearly see that there's nothing on his neck, what could this mean? In my opinion, there are two possibilities:
1) The thing that Okiya/Akai is covering up is where the latex mask ends and his real skin begins. I haven't bothered to go back through every instance of someone being disguised, but iirc both Araide and Scar Akai always wore shirts with high necks, although in KID's first DC appearance he disguised as Ran in a dress that showed her neck. However, this is assuming that Okiya is disguised using a mask, which is not known for sure, and he did reveal his real eye at the end of the mystery train arc, which I don't think he would be able to do if he were wearing the mask.
2) The thing that is being covered up is not on Okiya's neck, but on Bourbon's. In file 811, Haibara does not yet know who Bourbon is, and still suspects Okiya. It's also been theorized that Bourbon and Haibara's sister have some sort of relationship -
http://www.dctp.ws/V78-Reader/V78-7Read/A5.html . Haibara states that she has heard of Bourbon, so it's entirely possible that Akemi told Haibara about some sort of scar that Bourbon has. This is more likely considering that Bourbon met Haibara's parents as well, meaning that Akemi and Bourbon must have known each other from a young age. In addition, in all of his appearances Bourbon is wearing collared shirts:
For completeness, I checked Sera as well, but in File 830 she CLEARLY isn't hiding anything XD -
http://www.dctp.ws/V79-Reader/V79-2Read/A14.html
So, what do you think? In my opinion, it's easier to draw a conclusion from option 1: It would be just another clue that Okiya is Akai in disguise.
For option 2, it's kind of hard to see what it would mean. We already know that Bourbon is Amuro, and the only thing it would do is serve as a defining feature of Bourbon for Haibara, but she already knows who Bourbon is so it would be irrelevant at this point. What else could it signify?

iirc, last time this got brought up, the opinion a lot of people liked was that he wore some sort of voice changer on his neck to help with the disguise. That's why when Sera was there while he was brushing his teeth, he just responded with muffled noises, because if he'd actually spoken she would've realized who he was, as he wasn't wearing the voice changer at the time.
as for "the thing being covered is on Bourbon's neck instead", I don't get why Okiya would then stop Haibara from checking his neck. If Haibara knew Bourbon had something there, why stop her from checking unless he wanted her to think he was Bourbon?

Both of those are excellent points, didn't think of those. I guess I just noticed that Bourbon's always wearing collared shirts and ran with it.

Maybe Akai has a scar on his neck after an ancient fight with Bourbon? I mean, if Bourbon hates Akai's guts so much, they must have had an incident in the past, right? The scar could be from a bullet, sort of like Gin's. And it was such a big fight everyone knew about it (including Haibara). But I doubt this is the case. I think a voice changer would be the most likely.

Yeah, I hadn't noticed that he didn't speak when his neck was revealed, so I didn't think about a voice changer. The only thing that bugs me about this is if he didn't have the voice changer on why didn't he also not have his disguise on? But it's possible that they caught him in the middle of him putting it back on after getting out of the shower or something. He's even just about to comb his hair in that scene, which would be an odd thing to emphasize using 2 panels if it weren't relevant.

I *think* (not absolutely sure though) that the comb thing was emphasised to show Okya using his left hand as his dominant one and hiding the fact he was left-handed...?

I feel like that would be an odd thing to hide though... I mean, yeah they're both left handed, but I doubt that Sera would be like, "He's left handed?!?!?!? IT'S SHUU-NII!!" As if that were the one thing that convinced her

I originally thought he was hiding it because it was a wig comb, but it looks nothing like the majority of wig combs I could find on google images so~ :X

Might the comb be engraved or something else that made it unique and identifiable by sera as her brothers possesion?

It doesn't seem to be, it shows it up close and it just looks like a normal comb.

What strikes me as a bit odd, though, is that he moves his arm from the table to his pocket and then removes the comb from his sleeve... but why put it in his sleeve if he stuck his hand in his pocket? It would be easier to hide it there...

To be honest the theory that it was a voice changer doesn't satisfy me. Haibara was obviously looking there to find some definitive proof about Okiya being Dai; finding a voice changer would only confirm that he was using a device to change his voice from some reason, it would definitely not give her definitive proof that he's Moroboshi Dai. Also, both Akai and Okiya wore shirts with high collars that hid their necks; it makes sense that Akai wore that as Okiya as well to conceal something he had even before he faked his death and disguised as Okiya.
Of course, in the very next chapter we see that nothing's there, but I still stand by what I said above.

It's also possible Okiya heard about Ran, Sera etc.. coming in Shinichi's house (assuming Conan informed Okiya) and Okiya got the idea to let his entire neck visible on purpose so that Ran and Co see it and don't get suspicions about Okiya wanting to hide something on his neck.
After all in the previous file Haibara almost revealed his neck.. if he thought maybe other people close to him like Ran, Sonoko would probably want to know why he's hiding his neck, I think he'd just show it on purpose so they wouldn't have any questions like "Why is he always hiding his neck? Don't you think it's peculiar?"
In other words, he got lucky Haibara wanted to remove his scarf, 'cause he wouldn't have that idea of showing his whole neck in the next file and Sonoko would have forced him to show it. Actually I think (since there wasn't a scar) Okiya is only wearing a jewel/necklace that says "A&A", "Akai&Akemi" or something like that revealing he's Akai. So he removed it when he heard of Conan that Ran and co were coming.

Well, at some point he met Yukiko, right? A woman's hair (presumably hers) was found in his house in that file. One of the theories at the time was that she was disguised as him, which really is a bit of a stretch... But it's also possible she helped him apply foundation to cover whatever is on his neck.

Assuming there is something
on his neck, yes. Even though I personally think/hope it's more a necklace or something like that. I can't imagine Okiya/Akai with something like a tattoo on his neck

I really think he's hiding a voice changer...I guess Haibara noticed he was always hiding his neck...It makes sense since when he revealed his neck to Sera,he didn't speak, and was conveniently brushing his teeth.
I don't like the idea of him wearing a neckless...it's easy to remove so no need to hide it under a scarf.
I have to say I would like him to wear a tatoo, that would be so cool^^But the voice changer makes more sense.
