Why do new Conan chapters only have 16 pages?

I'm reading 5 manga from WSS atm, Conan, Kenichi, Kami Nomi, Magi and Hayate. While Kenichi, Kami Nomi and Magi always gets 18 pages for each new chapter Conan and Hayate seems to only get 16.

Does anyone know the reason for this?

Also anyone know why Conan never seems to get any color pages? Its been a few hundred chapters since the last time there has been any. :/

From what I remember hearing, it's the author's choice as long as it's in a certain range set by the magazine as being reasonable for the publication type... could be wrong, though.

Gosho's drawings have been smaller and smaller so it fits more into a 16-pager.

It used to be more, but as Aoyama has started using the space more productively and had quite a bit more text, it's been reduced. I mean, I remember seeing a bit two page spread with only one drawing on in one of the earlier volumes which you'd be very unlikely to find now, though YMMV on whether that's a good or bad thing. The colour pages I'd put down to lack of time, although he does still do keyholes, some scenes in the movies and the poster for the mystery train case, which could sorta be counted.

Nah, it was 18 at the start iirc, he cut it down to 16 later
