I pretty guess it is a guy. Although I first thought he was a gir l...
When my head was still spinning around waiting for the right answer... it passed the possibility of being Satou, Kaitou, or erm... half girl, half boy ?


The face looks like a girl but if you observe the body closely... it's the body of a man .

He looks kinda cool though. <3

For all we know, it's possible we're not even half-way through the manga yet.

I would really love to believe that. Let's hope we are not even quarter-way through the manga yet.

By rival... it could mean he/she is Conan's rival in deductions.

I'm glad everybody's excited by this idea of an actual rival for Conan. I was just as excited when I suggested it in August of 2009.

There are plenty of ways of introducing suspense--give Conan a real rival that undoubtedly outshines him on a case or two, and then you can get fans talking.

I'll put money on this guy using his karate to beat up the criminal in the end, to note. WHO'S WITH ME!?!/1/!!??

(And as for this being a genuine rival for Ran's affections, I don't buy it; I don't think Gosho will really make anything of it, as it'd take too much time away from the mysteries)

It's a nice change of pace, but I wouldn't expect too much. Gosho's probably making us think that it's something important, that it will bring some kind of progression...and at the end of the case, we'll realize it was actually completely meaningless (again).

Also, I am very glad that we finally have another nice bloody scene in this manga !

Even if that does somehow happen though...I would be worried. Heiji sucked in his first couple appearances because of how much of a boring, typical rival character he was. And if I was bored with someone who gave Conan a temporary cure in his first appearance and found out his identity in the 2nd, why would I care
