There is no poll this time because there isn't a selection of criminals to choose from. One thing stands out. The monkey is the ninth animal of the zodiac which would explain why the guy corrected Conan's rooster (10). Nine might refer to which festival the Tori man plans to strike next at, but I am still skeptical that is what the man was trying to say. The blood on the Tori man's backpack likely indicates he has blood on him, or there are two Tori men and the knifed man was one of them, but his partner betrayed him. I need more clues. I do hope Makoto shows up in this case; it's been a while since we have had a good arse-kicking.

Nothing to do with the contents of the post, but:
CHEKHOV! I've missed you!
On topic: My theory's gonna be that the stabbed man (victim) was the original Tori-Man, and the (taking of the) mask and the (bringing of the) daypack were to confuse the crime.

I like unusual cases, you know with the three suspects or the given murderer. So this case seems to be fun. ^^ And hopefully important in the ShinichixRan-aspect.
Yeah, I thought of a partner too and of switching mask, but... we didn't get much clues. Or at least I can't realate the story of the mask and the rooster festival and the misunderstanding of the fortunetelling to the case itself at this point. Hm...

2) how does the victim knows its not tori?
3) how did the victim know its nine monkey?
4) why did the tori man still carries sonoko's bag and the other stolen items? my guess that he wanted to make it seem as if the tori man was the murderer
this is interesting case and confusing one :O
my answer to question 4) is the Tori Man is stupid

lol, but its really strange since its been days since he stole them, why does he still carries them?
Agreed. I think a framing is in order here, but I need more information. I like the case so far, but information is lacking so I don't have much to say...

I tried to figure out this tori not tori thing, and though I wasn't able to decipher a message I'd like to share my thoughts, so maybe others get inspirated by them somehow.
In the end they asked whether it was the Toriman who attacked him, but he said it wasn't the tori man it was the monkey. Maybe he wanted to say monkey man, so in Japanese saruman (leaving man, because in toroiman man is man). However Saruman is only a character in the Lord of the Rings and I didn't see the connection with nine or kyuu with him at all.
Also because this is a dying message, it has to refer to the murderer's key "feature", his name.
Man, this is hard.

He's "Tori-man" by night...a woman by day.

interesting case so what i can understand is the victim is tori man and the person who stab him is just a monkey.
monkey see monkey do

Actually, if you take "Tori no ichi" and substitute nine ("kyuu" but in this case "ku" for short) for "Tori" you get "kunoichi" which means "female ninja" but can also mean "woman" colloquially as well. It was a bit of a stretch so I didn't mention it, but since you brought up the Tori man's gender....

I like this case! (and not just because Takagi could possible show up in 717). Its a great case! you got
Spoiler:
Ran being all adorable trying to be more like a non-ass kicking lady, Sonoko is obviously trying to be more sophisticated (I can't spell), for Makoto. That's really funny. So yeah, I think it's going to be a good case

We can see that there were 9 items that were in the daybag!
He's trying to tell us that he's the Tori-Man!

I thought so too, maybe "monkey" means something regarding the name of the one who stabed him. It could be that the two were working as a team and the one with the knife decided to end the working relationship with the hard way. XP

Tagaki/Sato is a possiblity, but aren´t they in the murderer dezenat? This was robbery and body injurying so far, dunno if they have to come or not. But i wouldn´t mind seing them.^^
Spoiler:
Actually i didn´t find it very sweet, just embarrasing (but also a bit funny to take a love horoscope that earnest^g^) and i couldn´t believe Ran and Sonoko are trying to change their very personality cause of a freaking horoscope. o.O
I mean, Shinichi and Makoto loves them for how they are, not how a horoscope tells them how to act. Hope Shinichi sets her straight at the end, she even let a criminal escape cause of that. -.-
The ass-kicking is a part of her personality like her sugar-sweet side, so she shouldn´t lose it! 8)
Same for Sonoko expect the ass-kicking and sugar-sweet side.
Hm, my opinion about the chap.... I find it goo- I WANNA SEE THE BO AGAIN!

looks like a really fun case. what i find really strange is, why are all the stolen bags kept in one backpack?? my thoughts are maybe the Tori-man's friend/roommate found out that his friend/roommate is, well, the Tori-man. so he decides to reappear and return the bags? ...well that's just my half-baked explanation for the backpack. :/
if we go by the zodiac analysis, according to the Chinese zodiac legend the rooster, monkey and the sheep helped one another in the race to be part of the zodiac calendar. So if it's true that the Tori-man had a helper, then maybe it is a 3-people group, in fact, and a 'sheep' will appear in the next chapters?

It's been pointed out in the manga and anime again and again, a lot of Japanese names and words can be taken from numbers or turned into numbers (wasn't there a whole episode or movie which revolved around Kogoro's friends being targeted in the order of their number-names?)
So maybe this nine has to do with the name of the Toro man. Maybe there are characters in his name for nine and monkey? I don't know a lick of Japanese... so if that sounds silly, then disregard ^^
I do agree though.... my first though was that the guy who got stabbed was the original Toro man (or one of the Toro men).
