Theory on Rum's Glass Eye

My theory is that Rum uses two different sets of glass eyes: one for everyday activities, one which isn't at all conspicuous and looks more or less like a normal human eye. The other is obviously a glass eye, and Rum uses this in certain interactions with certain people, so that the word spreads that Rum has a glass eye. This is done intentionally to mislead his enemies; they'll be on the lookout for a guy with an easily identifiable glass eye (after all, word of it wouldn't have gotten out had it been subtle), which'll allow him to escape suspicion when using the normal-looking one.
Another possibility is, of course, that Rum himself is responsible for the rumour that he has a glass eye, where in reality both eyes are functional; his enemies wouldn't suspect that a guy with two normal eyes might be Rum.
Thoughts?

But that logic only works if Rum takes it for granted that there's a leak in the BO. That's not something they would casually leave be to the point that they have to rely on such cheap tricks.

@Swagnarok: please avoid double posting. You have an "edit" button to edit your first post and combine it with the second post's text. Then delete the extra post.
Besides "glass eye" is a nickname, the actual material is medical grade plastic acrylic with a few exceptions made of cryolite glass.
These prothesis do not provide vision, though.
And I agree with meiTanteixX that I fail to see the need for RUM to spread rumors like that: maybe unlike Gin, he doesn't feel the need to appeal to his existance and hardly is seen by anyone hence the conflicting descriptions (which could be underlings of his pretending to be him).
Besides, your "theory" only offers that rumor as evidence: I think it's a bit too stretched to call it "theory", I'd rather name it "hypothesis" since there's a lack of factual proof to prove it: theories are backed up by evidence or facts, after all.

Yes, I am aware of this.

Correct. What I'm saying is that Rum has one normal eye and one fake eye. However, he doesn't always use the same fake eye.

If general knowledge of the glass eye was not an intentional trick by Rum, and if he only appeared through three subordinates pretending to be him, why would they all be sporting glass eyes?

Eh, I'm using the word "theory" loosely here.

Rum's enemies don't necessarily have to be outside of the Organisation. Don't forget that Pisco was killed by Gin, Irish was killed by Gin (in movie 13, which I admit isn't canon), Gin was on the verge of killing Vodka once, Gin has attempted to kill Vermouth once, Vermouth pointed a gun at Bourbon, etc. In short, the Black Crows can't really trust each other; it's possible that somebody within the Organisation might hate Rum, or they might seek to take him out in some kind of bid to make his job opening available.
Conan got this tidbit on Rum from former BO agent Sherry, and I doubt that the CIA/FBI knows about the glass eye (I might not be up to date on this). On the other hand, it'd seem that Rum's existence is common knowledge within the BO.
It's also possible that Rum is thinking ahead and making himself a bit more secure in the event of a leak by spreading that rumour. After all, there's been a heck of a lot of those (Shuichi Akai being confirmed, with the possibility of Sherry singing like a canary to the feds, with the remote possibility of Kir being a mole, and with Ethan Hondou and Scotch also being confirmed moles).
