I just finished watching another episode of the Scarlet anime, and had a random though about Vermouth.

Why would she work so hard to convince Bourbon that Akai is dead? I mean, Akai from the FBI, and Kir is from the CIA. Both the FBI and the CIA are agencies that have their home in the USA. While most of times that agencies work separately (and are inimical to each other), we can assume that sometimes they might work together. Especially on a small island called Japan that is located so far from the US.

Now, Vermouth knows that Kir is a spy. She probably also knows that she's from the CIA. Even if she doesn't know that, I'm pretty sure the BO found out who Ethan was, and since Ethan was a mole, and Kir also it, it would be easy to connect that both are from the CIA.

So, since Vermouth knows that Kir is a spy, and was under the FBI (and Akai) in the hospital, and they had a lot of time to come with various plans, why she tries to convince Bourbon that Akai is dead? Does she really believe that Akai died, or perhaps she tries to protect him? Again, especially that she knows that one mole "killed" another mole.

I would hold on the idea that Vermouth is trying to convince Bourbon otherwise—her smile after her initial shock reaction to Bourbon's claim is up for interpretation. She could really believe that Shuichi is dead and thinks that Bourbon has made her participate in, as she later says, a "farce."

She has her suspicions, but she also has to face the fact that Kir has killed two people who infiltrated the Organization—there's been no indication that they know Ethan Hondo's background and history, family, which agency he was from, or even his first name. The Organization doesn't seem to be making the assumption that Kir and the man she killed were actually father and daughter, each from the CIA, and that Ethan had planned for his daughter to kill him. Bourbon may be suspicious of Shuichi's death, but there seems to be no suspicions surrounding Kir's killing of a man who the Organization only knows as "Hondo."

Again, unless the Organization suspects that Kir and the man she killed were in league with each other, their suspicion of her in the matter of Ethan Hondo's death makes no sense. Gin, at least, believes that Shuichi really did die, and the only time he didn't was during the Department Store Bombing Case, and since Kir hasn't made an appearance, since then, there's no way to know if her loyalty's been tested, again.

I'm not saying Vermouth's suspicions of Kir during their interactions don't matter, and I'm not saying that there's no way Vermouth could be protecting Kir and Shuichi to preserve Shinichi's/Conan's chances of taking down the Organization—what I am saying is that until Kir appears again, I'm just going to wait before speculating.
