You're right. And I think that's intentional on Gosho's part. But again, it's a matter of just when it'll lead to something—be it with Ran, or even the BO.Iwamoto Yuri wrote:Him turning out good was certainly a downer, especially since he'd been hyped up as this big threat that turned out to be another ally thus giving Conan less reason to be on guard (and let's be honest, he's not tried actually hiding for ages now...). It was interesting to see him being close to a character obviously involved with the BO, and the fact we all thought he was bad made him 100% more interesting as a character, which was all lost because let's save the status quo I guess :V.
My dislike stems not only from him turning out good, though... I already disliked Akai because he felt overhyped and OP, but in Japan both of them are overhyped in a Rye vs Bourbon feud thanks to their animosity in the Manga and movies (which all stems from one of them misunderstanding what happened because he saw something from the wrong angle). That equates to them getting all the merch in the universe, including these absolutely gorgeous looking figurines while in the meantime Heiji still doesn't have an actual figurine AND SCREW THESE CHARACTERS I NEED THAT TO HAPPEN ASAP.
But it's mostly annoying to see them pitted against each other because of a stupid misunderstanding... If that's what his movie is going to be about then I'm not interested...
Until Gosho decides it's time to stop setting up the pieces on the board and actually move them, that's what's gonna happen—again, it's wondering about exactly when he's gonna get to it.
Ah, so you're part of the group who doesn't care for Shuichi. I just hope you realize what turns you off when it comes to him does the opposite for others—you see overpowered, they see an intelligent bada$$ with a lot of history, ties and investment in the BO.
I also advise against the zero-sum view that Shuichi and Rei should lose their status so that Heiji can get a better status—that his gain can only come from their loss. Who says we can't have both? I'm a fan of all three of them! This trio has taken over, in terms of movies, since 2013 and Movie 17. They and Kaito/Kid II have made vaults of money for DC.
Movie 20 was more about that, given that the Scotch death flashback came out around that time. When I hear Movie 22 is about Rei/Toru/Bourbon, I don't think, "looks like more Shuichi/Rei grudge time!" I'm hoping for the rest his past, which features Jinpei Matsuda, Wataru Date, Scotch (still waiting for his real name) and Elena Miyano.
"Stupid misunderstandings" are vintage DC. They eventually lead to relentless remorse for those who feel they got screwed and lashed out, and, thus, development for them—we're eventually going to see that with Rei/Toru/Bourbon. They also provide a way out for those like Shuichi—they seem guilty, but actually aren't. And you know what?... the "stupid misunderstanding" that kicked off everything between them—Scotch's death—I found it to be really tragic. We were so close to, at minimum, potential MPD PSB and FBI team up, only for the wrong thing to happen at the wrong time, and a good man paid the price—and potential allies became anything but. So I am very much invested in seeing a resolution between Rye and Bourbon. They're not overhyped to me—and guess what?... if someone told me Heiji was overhyped, I'd contest that assertion, too.
