His statement's probably collecting dust in a back file, being literally the only contact that Akai's had with the police.

How long would the police search for James before giving up and assuming that he panicked and flew home? Hell, maybe he did take a quick flight out and then back in a little later. Again, with the criminals captured, it's not like they would be utterly depending on his statement to find anybody.
part two. James would be needed for the trail, and as certain parties know where he is,it better to be truthful and get it over with then to raise eyebrows as to why he did not. Think of it as hiding in plain site. Better to act as a normal person, then you avoid something and get others asking why he was a no show.

I don't think Akai used a false name back then. He had no reason to do so, since he was neither the suspect nor was he caught doing anything illegal. The only thing he had to do was probably to show his ID and answer some questions for formalities. It would be awkward if he got into trouble for using false name in police interrogation. (Plus what false name could he use? Moroboshi Dai? That would get him into far bigger trouble than just being Akai Shuuichi lol)

Yeah, it probably wasn't a situation worth a fake name. I doubt he had to give more than a name and a brief statement.
