Spoiler:
Is it bad that the only thing I am now thinking of here is which movie is now canon with the appearance of everyone's favourite chipmunk man?
Would be a very interesting discussion in itself, since he said he only knew Conan, which indicates they must have met at some point and he's not appeared in manga before. That said, there are a few movies that have recently been redrawn in manga format though, so that could mean they should now be considered canon in the manga world...
As for the plot, the cypher has me puzzled still. I've actually tried to figure it out for once but I'll probably not get there before this ends :V. I also haven't read the newest file yet, and I'll wait a bit before I will because just reading the lines doesn't do it for me. I'm loving Heiji being involved, though, so I'm pretty hyped to see where this is going....

Spoiler:
I would say that they met each other in a yet unreleased chapter. Maybe the movies are all still not canon, and someday in the manga we officially will see how they have met.

Spoiler:
I meant just the redrawn ones being canon, since Crossroads in the Ancient Capital has been redrawn... Since I own both volumes of it I decided to check appearance. Looking at how they drew the chipmunk Detective, in the redraw he has solid black coloured hair while in the gosho manga his hair isn't filled in this appearing lighter, so it could be evidence that it's not the case that these manga versions make those movies canon (aside from the many contradictions already popping up here). What is interesting, however, is Gosho making it clear that he might copy a lot of ideas from the movies and anime, so that still leaves me puzzled about what that means for the DC manga canon.
And I hope we do get to see it! I'd love to know where they met each other, and it sounds like he has at least seen Heiji before (maybe not interacted, but seen definitely). Always interesting to get more background, and I really liked him in the movie as well, so I'm glad we have a new cop on our team (honestly, when I heard the case took place in Kyoto I already had my hopes up the guy would appear instead of some random new policeman, so I'm happy either way).

Spoiler:
I think of the movies as non-canon guidelines, for Gosho to take something he likes from the movies and have it play a role in the manga—make no mistake, though... the movies aren't canon. Characters that were created for movies may ascend into the manga canon, but you won't see the following events (even meetings between manga characters and not yet manga characters) referenced—not even broadly, let alone in specifics:
  • Teiji Moriya's anti-symmetrical bombings
Aquacrystal and Shinichi/Conan shooting Ran in the leg to save her
The Memories Egg and Kaito/Kaitou Kid II discovering Shinichi's/Conan's identity and stopping him from telling Ran
Ran getting Retrograde amnesia and Shinichi/Conan then confessing to her at Tropical Land as they're shot at
BO member/murdered traitor Yoshiaki Hara, the BO bombing the Tokiwa Twin Towers (due to his betrayal) and Gin nearly killing Sonoko (after mistaking her for Shiho/Sherry)
10-year-old Hiroki Sawada uploading his consciousness to the net as he's driven to suicide by Jack the Ripper's descendant and Shinichi/Conan and co. getting stuck in a virtual reality Victorian London
A man dressed as Benkei killing 5 people, leading to Inspector Fumimaro Ayanokoji meeting Shinichi/Conan and Heiji, ultimately leading to Shinichi posing as Heiji to try and save Kazuha
Shinichi/Conan and Kaito/Kid II engage in a glider chase, then, alongside Ran, have to land a plane, as she confesses to the former, only to think, later, that she actually confessed to the latter
A cruiseliner sinks, but not before Kogoro is able to solve the case himself and take down the culprit, who made use of another vengeful person and their efforts to increase the chances of their success
Kaito/Kid II disguises as Saguru after coming across a group of three alumni of Crime Research Club of YOU turned criminals and aids Shinichi/Conan and Heiji in saving the others from wrist bombs as they obliviously enjoy Miracle Land
Ran and Sonoko are abducted on Komi Island by two treasure hunters after Anne Bonny's and Mary Read's treasure, and Shinichi/Conan literally has to raise a ship to save them all
Shinichi/Conan and soprano Reiko Akiba prevent the destruction of an entire music hall and prevents the culprit from completing their serial murder spree
A BO memory card containing their NOC list is destroyed before Shinichi/Conan can get his hands on it, but his identity is not exposed by BO member Irish,
and he manages to use his suspenders to leap down Tokyo Tower, and not only not die, but cause the BO helicopter trying to shoot him to crash
A terrorist group hijacks Jirokichi's airship, only to be thwarted by Shinichi/Conan, though he can't get back at Kaito/Kid II for making Ran think that he was Shinichi
Shinichi/Conan saves the MPD crew, Tokyo's governor and everyone on the Toto Line's first train and the entire village of Kitanosawa
A former soccer player tries to blow up the J-league, but is stopped by suspenders and a power-enhanced shoe-assisted free kick
The JSDF get an assist from Shinichi/Conan in stopping a Chinese spy, who gets an assist from Heiji, Kazuha, Shiho/Ai and Hiroshi
Shuichi/Subaru intervenes to take down a Marine Corps Staff Sergeant, whose victims include Masumi (though, in her case, it wasn't lethal)
Kaito/Kid II takes Shinichi's place in America and at Lake Rock to preserve Van Gogh's most famous works, also helping (the 61-year-old) Konosuke achieve closure on his WWII past
Three NOCs inside the BO are killed and Rei's/Toru's/Bourbon's and Hidemi's/Rena's/Kir's cover are threatened after Rum's direct subordinate, Curaçao, gains access to the NPA Security Bureau's list of every intelligence agency's NOC agents, leading to a team up between Rei/Toru/Bourbon, Shuichi and Shinichi/Conan, during which they bring down a BO tiltrotor and prevent the ferris wheel at Toto aquarium from crushing thousands
and...
  • Nichuri TV is bombed, and members of the Satsuki Cup are attacked and killed, culminating in Shinichi/Conan and Heiji saving Kazuha and Momiji during the final Karuta match
In other words—Momiji and Ran met in both the manga and the movies, as did Fumimaro and Shinichi/Conan, but the specific circumstances of their movie meeting are different from the specific circumstances of their manga meeting. Again, guideline (broad, broad terms—two characters meet), not rule (specific terms—TV recording in Osaka Vs trip to Kyoto).

Spoiler:
I'm not saying the movies are canon, so most of that explanation wasn't necessary XD. (And sorry, but I skipped over all the events you listed because I know what you mean already)
The appearance of chipmunk man and the mention of him knowing Conan just made me wonder if it was possible that by drawing some of the movies in manga format they were made canon, however (and as of now, only the Time Bombed Skyscraper, Raven Chaser, Countdown to Heaven, the Last Magician of the Century, Dimensional Sniper and Crossroads in the Ancient Capital have been redrawn in manga format, so that would clearly not count for all movies).
I have already decided that that was most likely me being overexcited, though :V. But the question of what WOULD be adopted from the anime/movies aside from three policemen so far is still an interesting one.

No need to apologize—it'll be there for anyone who may not remember. :)

Well, if Gosho ever decides that he doesn't mind all that action being canon, he can one day start drawing those adaptations, himself... yeah, that doesn't seem likely. He probably doesn't want that—just as much as he doesn't want Akako in DC.

True, we have them from the early days, but since 2014, we've had:
  • Dimensional Sniper – Released parallel to Scarlet Showdown (894–898/781–783) – Shuichi/Subaru, FBI
The Darkest Nightmare – Released parallel to The Impact of Betrayal (954–957/866–867) – Shuichi/Subaru, Rei/Toru/Bourbon and Rum
The Crimson Love Letter – Released parallel to Settling the Score (990–993) – Heiji, Kazuha and Momiji
More and more, we've had movie content have plenty of tie in to current events in the manga—the last two cases, we've had movie characters become manga characters (Yuya (Movie 20) – 997–999; Fumimaro (Movie 7, Movie 21) – 1,000–1,00X).

Movie 22 will be about Rei/Toru/Bourbon, so I'll be expecting a manga case about him in April 2018.

I laughed - thank you for this on-point summary :D :D it also got better the longer the list ran...

As for the current arc...
Spoiler:
judging from the spoiler pics for 1003, Shinichi seems to have solved the case.
But surely a 4-file case wouldn't be advertised by saying "a long case begins"?

Yeah, the way-over-the-top action gets even more over the top as we get into the double digits. ;D

Speaking of which, here's the link to them (since there are only 2 out, as of now):

You mean a 5 File case. And yes, it would be advertised as a long case, since Gosho hasn't made a case longer than 5 Files since 2012.

Momiji is a breath of fresh air for DC. Her personality is gold imo.
Either it's complaining about repetitive stuff or about new stuff nowadays... sigh

^This, this gif sums up exactly how I feel about him, lol.
It's pretty clear that with "oh god" and suddenly using "want" in the past tense, you'd likely agree with the fans who assert that he's not been a good thing for DC, by any means...
Spoiler:
...though that conclusion may have been reached, primarily (not just by you, but by all the critics he's picked up since 2014)—or even only—due to him being revealed as a NOC during Scarlet Showdown, meaning you wouldn't now revile him so, had he instead remained a straight-up villain.
Him turning out good was certainly a downer, especially since he'd been hyped up as this big threat that turned out to be another ally thus giving Conan less reason to be on guard (and let's be honest, he's not tried actually hiding for ages now...). It was interesting to see him being close to a character obviously involved with the BO, and the fact we all thought he was bad made him 100% more interesting as a character, which was all lost because let's save the status quo I guess :V.
My dislike stems not only from him turning out good, though... I already disliked Akai because he felt overhyped and OP, but in Japan both of them are overhyped in a Rye vs Bourbon feud thanks to their animosity in the Manga and movies (which all stems from one of them misunderstanding what happened because he saw something from the wrong angle). That equates to them getting all the merch in the universe, including these absolutely gorgeous looking figurines while in the meantime Heiji still doesn't have an actual figurine AND SCREW THESE CHARACTERS I NEED THAT TO HAPPEN ASAP.
But it's mostly annoying to see them pitted against each other because of a stupid misunderstanding... If that's what his movie is going to be about then I'm not interested...
irishock wrote:Why the hell does anyone care about Momiji.. seriously.
... while no one even cares enough to hate her.
Why would you hate her though? She's interesting because she might just be the one thing that'll force either Kazuha or Heiji to finally confess, which totally needs to happen.
Eisuke was hated..
He was? I actually liked him, but only because he annoyed Conan. Annoyed Conan is good.

Same here, I liked Eisuke because for once Conan was jealous about Ran, and it looked pretty cute. And it comes from me who hates the whole love stories, confessions &c in Conan.

Yes, jelly Cones are great. He was also interesting in that he was subtly smart enough to figure out his identity without needing a direct confrontation, which I liked about him. Having a clumsy character using their clumsiness to disguise their real abilities is great, and Gosho clearly liked the idea too because we got another character using her perceived clumsiness to hide her true nature.
