Sera's relationship to Shinichi and Ran could just be a girl who was in their class one year. They forgot because it was so long ago, and/or they didn't really see her much after that because she moved or something. that's my thought.
but Shinichi doesn't really remember her, making this relationship really one sided, in a way.
Aren't a lot of relationships one sided in DC?

I'll not use the pairing names, but those are the ones I can think of at the top of my head. Joke ones aside, I see them as being about equal. But there are probably more I can't remember right now...
I also didn't include happily married couples like Yukiko and Yuusaku, since it would probably throw it off a bit. And they've long been established. Eri and Kogoro are still working on it. V:

Well,my theory is that Sera met Shinichi a long time ago with his trip with ran somewhere. There, he encountered a case where sera was also present. He solved the case easily , and maybe saved Sera's life, or said something which affected sera immensley and she got a crush on him. It can also be the reason that sera became a detective because of Shinichi . Or maybe she was already a beginner detective.

well I agree with you but I don't think that she is trying to collect information about akai. because she doesn't know that akai and conan were working together

the thing is, there are way too many girls that like Shinichi/Conan. Haibara, Ayumi (although it's not true love or anything) and Ran.
if we add Masumi, then it becomes a frickin' love pentagon.
I would rather have her be alone; not everyone in Detective Conan has to be in love with someone or have a relationship.
Are we sure that wasn’t just about “it’s not Conan she loves, it’s Shin’ichi”?
In SDB 70+'s interview, when asked who Sera likes, Gosho responds "Conan-kun kana". It means "It must be Conan-kun", or "Shouldn't it be Conan-kun?", and that's Gosho's way of answering "Yes" to a question. So yeah, I think it's official.
But it's not like it's new or anything, Gosho has hinted strongly since the beggining that Masumi loved Conan. Heck, she even asks Conan if he remembers her from their childhood when Ran and Sonoko are talking about their boyfriend in file 876. ô_Ô
