[768-770] Jeet Kune Do: Sera's Identity Speculation Thread

While I do agree with all of this, the bolded points are especially what I've been thinking about. I mean, when I first saw the raws, I was convinced this JKD person was a girl, no doubt about it. Even now, I'm really doubting it's a boy, but maybe that's just me.

Anyway, with the girl being a real detective, this is really what I'm hoping for. I mean, how awesome would it be for her to not only win a deduction battle against Conan but then top it all off with, 'Oh, btw, I'm a girl' or something flirty? Conan's face would just be priceless. Aforementioned 'blackmail' would be awesome too. Not to mention if this person knew about Conan being Shinichi, it would be highly plausible they'd be somewhat main...which would mean a somewhat constant upfront challenge to Ran (who can't be beaten just by karate as they're basically equal skill) She'd [Ran] would even especially feel challenged seeing as the JKD person is...well, the JKD expert and (supposedly) smart like Shinichi. Even if it didn't move the plot *shakes fist at Gosho* it'd at least be interesting.

The wink was one of the main things that convinced me it was a girl. Ran's blush had me thinking at first it was just something about Shinichi the person said (while scanning the Chinese raw of course) while the wink made me think 'Ohoho~ Conan's blushing'. Of course, this would bring up the question: does he know it's a girl or is he just feeling the feminine vibe without realizing it? I'm suspicious about his mood change too.

Oh yes, the 'knew Shinichi long ago' thing. This is something that bugged me before this case, specifically long ago when Eri came in. It was pretty much stated that Eri hadn't seen Shinichi in 10ish years. I could see Shinichi not recognizing her and even Eri not recognizing him, but you'd think she'd get some deja vu vibe considering he looks exactly the same. I would've killed for a joke like: "Hey wait... *to Ran* Oh wow, dear, Shinichi didn't grow at all, did he?" Or something.

Anyway, we'll just have to wait for the next file for answers, I suppose. There's at least one thing I know Gosho's accomplished with this character though: lots and lots of speculation.

EDIT: Oh yeah, before this point is brought up against this theory, I think the JKD person's "You're my type of girl" to Ran could've been meant in a way like "You're my type of opponent". Just a thought~

Yeah, without translation I thought it was a girl too - quite female eyes, quite female hair and quite female neck (really slim, did you noticed? because normally boys in DC had a bit thicker necks). When I read that it's probably a boy, I thought - WHAAA...? There's a few things to think about

1) How many boys (good boys who respect girls, I mean) would attack a girl in a bus? Even if she attacked first, most probably they would just blocked her, but not hit her and kick her. Even if they heard she's a Kanto's champion and knew she was able to defend - just tell me, how many?

2) After the fight Conan actually didn't allowed this person to explain the situation. Maybe this person was ashamed also because it's a girl? Girl groping a girl - pervert bi or lesbian. After reading a case about Supect Eisuke when appeared a woman who looked like a man and seeing reaction of the whole group when her boyfriend said they were kissing in the karaoke box ( like that O_O totally crazy reaction about homosexual relationship)... I mean, suspecting that a girl groped a girl would be even more embarrassing for DC character.

3) "Thank you for earlier" - yep, maybe I think too much, but it's kinda unusual. He actually didn't have to thank anybody, he could explain it himself, because he hold a hand of the real pervert, right? Could it be that she/he talked about some other thing from the past??

4) Repeating - Conan's blush. Dunno what's about. I like your idea about feeling feminine vibes. I remember a situation long time ago when Heiji winked to Conan (C: What are you doing here? H: Nothing, I just wanted to see you C: XD ). I mean as I hetero boy he most likely ignore it or become more annoyed - I guess. But with a girl it would be like with a female singer from Two Mix - blushes~!

I think when I read it was a boy, I had to read it over again like "Wait, what-?"

1) I didn't notice it off the bat like you did, but thinking back I think there was something odd with that scene. When the block happened I reacted as if it were normal. You know: self-defense and all. But when JKD attacked back, I found that odd. There could be multiple reasons: a) she's a girl, so fighting anyone who attacked her first wouldn't be a problem to her (guessing of course) b) she already knew a bit about Ran if she knew about Shinichi *coughcrushcough* c) going back to the "You're my type of opponent" guess, this person enjoys a good fight. ;3

Only when the 'pervert' part came up did they blush immensely. Now, no one really likes to be called a pervert if they aren't/or even if they are, so the blush is understandable. When Conan intervened it would almost seem to say that he would know about her gender, but of course he could've just been being Conan aka explaining things because he's so smart. Yeah, and I noticed even more about this situation. Take a look at this - when Sonoko grabbed this person's hand and called him/her pervert, she/he WASN'T ashamed, just a bit confused like "Whaaa?! ME?!". But no, this person started to blush in ONE moment after the battle with Ran. Then this person was like "Haha, what a funny situation". As you said, his/her blush while saying "my type" things to Ran is almost nothing (the same blush like Sonoko after hearing he headed to Haido Hotel), and with Conan he/she blushed more. What a weird situation. I really don't know what will happen. I would be really disappointed if it is another detective boy. :-/
But it's nice speculation anyway.

A quick search showed that Sera is indeed a girl's name... so maybe JKD is just a masculine girl after all.

It would certainly be... interesting, if we got a canon lesbian reoccurring character who has a thing for Ran. (read: OMG THAT WOULD BE AWESOME DO WANT.)

Hello everyone. i'm a bit new on the forums, but a long time conan fan.
As far as my thoughts towards whether the new character is a boy or a girl are this.
The fact that the character is wearing a hat makes me think that there might be a possibility that there is more hair hiding, but this is something that will be discovered when the hat comes off, if it comes off. *thinks if megure*
This new character's facial features do seem feminine but gosho has a tendency to do this for younger males. I thought eisuke was a girl at first.
His body is also quite slim, but his could be because they are quite fit

I personally hope it's a boy and proves to be a bit of a rival both for ran and for the mystery solving. Conan/shinichi needs one of those.
Also i looked through the entire chapter and neither ran nor sonoko mentioned Conan's name. not even once. So it would be awesome if this is a minor character from a precious chapter. I read the comments and arguments about it being eisuke. i personally don't think it can be him unless he was clumsy for show before. i think eisuke is genuinely clumsy so i don't consider him in the possibility list. also plot timeline is wonky and eisuke couldn't have been gone more then a month or two. way to short to suddenly get awesome.

also the whole blushing bit has me quite confused.

Also if i have repeated anything i'm sorry. this was what came to mind when i was typing. i have also read most of this thread and my ideas come from lots of other posts.
