Gin is more like the "real boss" in the story, the big boss has never really made an appearance, except being mentioned in story arc cases (of course except that the big boss is actually a recurring or even a main character). So it's more thrilling Conan/Shinichi and Co facing Gin than facing the big boss.

I have my own thoughts on this. After chasing Conan and trapping him in an alleyway, after throwing Conan into depressing and ultimate piss-offery, how would it end? Would Sato come to save the day? Treason in the B.O.? Maybe even Ran drop kicking the pretty blond man?

...No.
It would be more likely that an FBI agent would save Conan from Gin than a local officer. Besides I don't think Sato has it in her to take a killing shot while Gin would probably drop her at her first moment of hesitation.

The way it should end is Gin going out in a blaze of glory. After he is severely wounded and Conan/FBI/CIA believe they have him, he does his creepy laugh and says some Gin like lines before pressing a button that turns the current area into chaos. So in the end he dies but not before getting the last laugh.

And oh yeah, maybe Vodka should be there doing something..

i would agree, he is A list killer, hell he sleeps with his gun if he slept, and he is the the prick that would have the last laugh. logic, Ran dies or Conan dies, either way Gin win's. that or he took a good freind away as Conan faces the final boss, so it could Ai or heiji

I never really thought about it but .. I think Gin will die .. because he's evil, no matter how bad we (well, you actually, I'm not thaaat big of a fan) love him. I don't think he'll escape; in the end, if noone else could stop him, Ai or Shinichi would have to kill him

I'd want Shinichi to do it (maybe because Gin will otherwise harm Ran/Ai/Kogoro (and that's why Kogoro will forgive him for taking baths with Ran in his Conan form!)) .. ok, no, I just lost myself

I don't want to see anyone from the police to kill Gin, like someone said - through the series they had nothing to do with the BO. But Takagi, Satou or Shiratori (I can't remember when I started to like Shiratori so much o.O) killing any other BO member would be awesome! except for Vermouth, she - like Gin - has to die by someone more connected to the whole BO story. I loooove Vermouth but it'd be really interesting if she died (saving someone maybe? like Ai for a reason we don't know yet)

I like the idea of Akai (if he's alive) making a suicide in order to kill Gin with him (in a burning house - but no, we need a whole body just to be sure, if Gin's really dead, or else we'll always be wondering - because I agree, he's not a person we can really imagine dead!)
