don't forget that gosho had to write this case so  Conan could leave Ai and Okiya behind. Ai would never take off his scarf when Conan is nearby.

About the scarf incident at the end...
wasn't it just a few files ago that we were given the only look at Akai not wearing something with a high, neck concealing collar? Since his departure from the organization he has always worn those high collared shirts. Those two things are giving me strong feeling that Whatever Haibara was looking for on his neck is definitely something related to the organization as opposed to something personal between Akemi & Dai or Shiho & Dai or something like a mole or a birthmark.

Okiya *pretending to be asleep*: Crap, that was close. I knew I shouldn't have let Akemi talk me into getting those matching brony neck tattoos when we were dating. It's a good damn thing I look good in a turtleneck.

On a more serious note, if Okiya really is Akai, I find it hard to believe that he's hiding a scar or a tattoo there. If he has good enough disguise skills to convincingly masquerade as Okiya for so long, you'd think he'd have been able to take more precautions to hide an identifying mark on his neck than "oh noes! If she looks under my scarf the charade is over!"
