However, I a question I kept asking myself since reading file with the Xperia on its cover is, how many years have actually passed in the plot?

Because at the beginning they were actually using brick phones..maybe not brick but the pre-2000s phones with the antenna sticking out, then turned to the mid-2000s phones which had camera capabilities and now they are with smartphones.

It took the 'real world' >10 years for the transition and since in DC the characters don't seem to age, the DC world must have developed very fast technologically

1. it is not weird to see a mix of technology. Take Naruto as the example. they have so many modern technology (medic equipment and such) but no cell phone. so they still use bird to send letter.

2. if you remember the old case (The Girl From the Black Organization) The culprit use a phone recorder that still based on Tape. While on (News Coverage on the Detective Boys) the recorder is already digital.

3. The DB used to not having a cellphone. because that time, Phone is expensive and for adult only.... but later (The Two-Five-Two Case) we clearly see that each DB have personal Phone.

And they clearly use the phone functions. we can see Conan Search in the internet on his phone (SOS Showdown). on other case, Ai using a video call (The Boy Who Cried Wolf).

so Gosho adapt the current technology that already appear on the time he made that chapter.

I would think KID has the Shinichi phone considering Conan would need to use his Conan phone on more of a consistent basis. ^^;
