Even if that does somehow happen though...I would be worried. Heiji sucked in his first couple appearances because of how much of a boring, typical rival character he was.

Actually, Heiji has "sucked" (even if most cases with him actually rock) ever since he hasn't been a rival (like 400+ episodes ago).

And if I was bored with someone who gave Conan a temporary cure in his first appearance and found out his identity in the 2nd, why would I care

It doesn't have to be too late. No one can really deny that, if it were done well, that they would not be intrigued by Conan being relegated to second place in a deduction and being entirely outwitted. This gives not just the rival but Conan some depth--showcasing how he deals with that would be interesting, and give the series a bit of perspective it's never really seen.

By Gosho's standards, though, it probably is. I don't expect anything to come out of this whatsoever because Conan will come out on top and that will be that.

I hope Gosho didn't forget about the Okiya arc...because that's what it feels like...
if a new rival appears,Gosho will again focus on love stories intead of BO arc
I guess it's an other way to keep the story going on...

I heard an interesting note from someone that made me think.

did anyone else notice that guy/girl's face had an awfully peculiar similarity to Akai's. I'm not sayin thats a serious possiblity i'm just saying its something to note

i agree with JD though, as far as the case goes. my guess is this person will be on par with Conan and in the end they'll do one of those Heiji/Conan Tag team deductions. Conan doesn't lose, it's just not Gosho. However another sort of Eisuke situation wouldn't shock me

and so help me we better be more than halfway through this thing, i don't want to be in my thirties STILL waiting to hear what happened to Akai and who Bourbon is and what happened to Kir exc.

dear god no. I liked Eisuke and even I recognized how much he hurt almost any seriousness of any situation he was involved with.


oh but if you mean a character that will inevitably come back much later as an ally against the Organization, then ok, that would work I guess.

i mean someone who will have unrequited feelings for Ran. I can see him courting her and her shooting him down for obvious reasons and in the process envoking some of the prominent jealousy in Shinichi's character i.e soccer ball to the face maybe?

But if you want that type of story, surely there's other characters to use. I feel like if Gosho wants to introduce a new recurring character, there has to be a REALLY good reason for it instead of just basically reusing a story another character was involved with and than dissappeared.

point taken. if the 'Eisuke' role were to recur with this new person it would definitely be secondary to a bigger purpose. i'm open to anything though, I mean again think of Eisuke, when he first appeared he seemed completely insignificant but turned out to be a huge player in the overall plot so who knows

heck it could be Vermouth is disguise again we don't know. that would be hilarious though. In my mind, as long as this guy leads back to the Org somehow, its all good because that means......

No, with how dragged out and interspersed the Bourbon Arc is, it's obviously the penultimate arc.

I was going to put my money on KID, but I guess we'll find out. 

This is who I put my money on too.  Just ask Jd-.  I figured the only true lingering plot thread from anime to manga is him knowing who Conan is, so this is a nice way to introduce that thread.
