I decided not to vote on it, it was too obvious. Haibara's hat is the most suspicious one in this chapter, Gosho never makes it so simple.

It isn’t Aoi, the ambiguous blue/green, it’s 緑 (midori) green green. The four Chinese beasts are the the Vermilion Bird of the South, White Tiger of the West, Black Tortoise of the North, and the Azure Dragon of the East. Vietnam subs the tiger for the Kirin/Qilin. You could also chuck in the Yellow Dragon of the Center if you wanted, but there is no green in this system, so what is up with the green column?
When you said that inspiration struck me... kinda.
Didn't the detective boys say that one of the pedestals was made from copper? Elementary copper is red (vermilion) but over time (and we are talking about a Kichiemon mechanism here so enough time passed) it gets oxidised and turns into a blue-greenish color. The only problem is... we have a red pedestral already. But since the hint on the pillar is talking about "changing" I am pretty confident that this is the right track.
Maybe the color of the other pedestals changed over the years as well?
There has to be another way to get access to the Kirin in the pillar. And chances are Kid found it and used it to his advantage.

IF it was Kid. The tasser really seems a bit extreme. Even if he wanted to avoid using gas in a room with (real) children.
Well. I think it wasn't the camera- or sound man. Both have bulky equipment to carry which they can't put down easily. Which makes the female reporter standing right between those two quite unlikely as well. So basically it is the choise between Jirokichi and Nakamori (Nakamori being much more likely )- or not disguised at all. It was hard to see, but were that iron bars in the windows? That makes Kid coming from outsiode and using the confusion much more unlikely.

My guess: KID is not disguised. He found another way to access the Kirin, either from the room above or below and used this incident only to confuse the people so they won't figure out his trick until the storm is calmed down and he can leave again. The time between Conan being stuned and Ayumi and the others running towards him was way too short to do anything with the pedestals the four were guarding. Well, I am really looking forwards to the next chapter, I always wanted a DB VS Kid case. And it looks like they might have to figure this one out without Conan.  :)  (Which might be the reason Kid stunned him - if he figures out his trick too soon Kid might not be able to hide anymore and is trapped...)

Pretty certain that Haibara was referring to all of the pedestals when she said they were made from copper.

Then Genta commented that the color was fading/peeling off.

But if not, yours would be a nice catch.  Though I don't get how that'd relate to an alternate method of opening the column...

Hey.  Adding more fuel to the fire of MacG's "... Jirokichi ... malevolent turn," didn't the old man say something about kids not remembering unless they felt pain, or learning better from pain... stun gun = pain = TEACHING CONAN A LESSON!  ;D

We can remove the vote from the poll anyway, maybe they're planning to change it until we get the next chapter, where there are more clues. That's what I'd do anyway :P

Then the colors of the keys would have to change too.
No amount of apologies will express how much I regret it.

Only if they were made from the same material/surface coating.

No, they would have to change in order to still match up.

NEW THEORY FROM OUTER SPACE:

Akako used her black magic to transform into Haibara to help Kid with this heist.  ;D

And she transformed kid into her hat  :-X

I was thinking, since I'm not good with chemistry, maybe there's some chemical combination or something that could change the color of the pedestals. Maybe the rain helps change one/or all of their colors. If the pedestals where exposed to this certain change then it could possibly be the other method for opening the pillar.

Hehe, I like this one.

I'm thinking the sound guy looks the most suspicious, as in I think he's Kaito. but I don't think taser guy is Kaito. Using a taser is a bit too malicious for his style, especially on a little kid! (and even if Kaito Kid doesn't see Conan as a regular kid, he and Conan battle by outsmarting each other, not using this sort of means i think.)

Speaking of colours and copper, a quick search on wiki produces some interesting facts! although copper is reddish-brown, it forms blue or blue-green salts/solutions. e.g. copper(II) carbonate is the green that appears on roofs, domes, and the Statue of Liberty. copper(II) sulphate is blue, so is copper(II) hydroxide.

...is this the azure that we are looking for?

(Kichiemon's riddle, may refer to a change of colour? but I have no idea how someone could produce such a chemical reaction to change the colour of 4 pillars of copper like that, or how just a change of colour could possibly trigger the mechanism to open the central pillar. :X but it's a thought, i guess.)

I'm thinking along the lines of wordplay like previous Kichiemon riddles. Here's a post from a Japanese guy/gal who usually does pretty well in the mystery department, so maybe they have some insight since Japanese is not my forte... Source

I'm going to wait for more clues before I attempt to break the wordplay. Here are some of my preliminary thoughts.
Spoiler:
The verb "移ろう 【うつろう】 to change; to fade" sounds a lot like "虚ろ; 空ろ 【うつろ】 blank; cavity; hollow; empty (space)" Note that in Kichiemon's writing the "う" at the end of "移ろう" isn't there so it means the sound should match up.

I'm not sure what this might mutate into...
身を委ねる 【みをゆだねる】 (exp) to yield oneself to (something); to devote oneself to something; to surrender oneself to something

Pillar (円柱) has a character that looks a lot like the color radical 巴 and has the character for wood which according to chinese astrology is related to the azure dragon. Speaking of Chinese astrology, the center whatever it is associated with the color yellow, the change of seasons, and the element of earth.
大黒柱 【だいこくばしら】 (n) central pillar; mainstay; has the character for black in it which would be turtle.
Oh, yeah, I wonder if Conan managed to leave a "dying message" so to speak after the taser assault to indicate anything about who got him... I doubt he had enough time though.

It's 10 people now.. Now it just a matter of time before someone said which is better : Haibara's Hat or Ran..

wait, i've just said it :D

---------

anyway, i want your opinion about Kichiemon riddle..

"...must devote themselves to changing",

and KID message

" We're done with child's play, we shall do battle as adult"

I think the meaning of changing on Kichiemon message is, as KID mention in his message, was to change from Childish / child into Adult or matured personality..

So i think in the end of this arc Jirokichi will change.. To stop being so childish (pursuing KID for popularity and silly grudge), and act more like an adult..

*edit*
I've just realize that KID was already mentioned on page 06 of the chapter, the young man must have referred to Kaito

Conan has solved so many absurd and hasty "dying messages", I would be severely dissapointed in him if he couldn't come up with one in two seconds XDXD

11 votes XD just because there was the "Haibara" word in it XDDDD
Spoiler:
though I'd think.....*Reading the chapter again* .... the sound man seems suspicious, he might not be KID< but I just have the feeling he's the one who did it to  Conan....  :-\
