yeah that's sad...It's supposed to be DC 20th anniversary, and Gosho takes more breaks than usual, instead of giving us more DC good cases. ::)
To be fair, twenty years is a long time for a story like this. He has to come up with a new murder trick every three chapters, as well as a slew of new characters almost every time. I'm kind of awed he's been able to come up with so many different tricks and methods, especially since he originally intended DC to be MUCH shorter. Also, mangaka have a really demanding schedule, and he's been doing one story for twenty years. I think he deserves a little break.

Is the Rum character really necessary? If Gosho wanted to add another adversary for Conan, why not use Gin more? It's like he's been left out these last few years even though he's at the origin of the series! (turning Shinichi into Conan and all)
I agree, we could use more Gin. However, based on what I've seen I think Gosho saves Gin and Vodka for showdowns with a particularly large effect on the plot (the only one real exception I can recall was a run-in on a train way earlier in the manga), kind of like a trump card, so I don't think they'll be appearing anytime soon. Since Amuro and Kir are both double-agents, Vermouth won't harm Conan, and Chianti and Korn are just snipers called in by others and probably wouldn't investigate anything outside of which guns work best, I think Gosho introduced Rum as a necessity so Conan can have a new lead.

I'm currently neutral on this, though. There's not enough information on Rum to determine if his addition is necessary to the plot, though Conan DOES need something to investigate outside of showdowns (as well as add a bit of paranoia). While this COULD turn out to be interesting and overall necessary, there's also the risk that this could stretch out too long with no developments like the Bourbon arc. :/

@Fennec:I don't mind him taking breaks,I follow DC since 2004 so believe me I'm used to Gosho's breaks.

The problem is that this year,he tooks more breaks than usual(the world cup also explain that) and the breaks are close to each other, which makes the waiting even harder.I don't think the trick is the most difficult part of his job(IIRC he said the BO files and Shinran files are the most difficult for him).

And I have to say this time, having DC on Hiatus because of Kaito Kid is what makes me angry. If Gosho is so tired,he shouldn't continue drawing Kaito kid and DC at the same time.

i have an idea about who rum is
Spoiler:
the old man

reason: in chapter 908's end haibara tells conan that rum has one of his eyes that's fake(glass eye)left or right one

two pages behind we see the photo with conan on his phone probably taken by reporters , the two other suspects covering their eyes while the old man only covers his left eye while the right eye is wide open in front of the reporters flashes, so now i'm almost certain

@watchdog: I think you're reading too much into that. It just happened to be a coincidence that the 3 suspects looked like the descriptions of Rum that Haibara heard. And the old man was part of the robber gang, too. I don't think that he has any relevance to the plot: Rum won't be revealead so early and if Gosho means for us to be excited then he won't make such a plain character be Rum.

It's been a while since the last file, but thank god the break is two weeks away from finishing. LOL, I find it crazy how excited I am while the file is two weeks away, where at times most of us were disappointed by a 2 weeks break, God Gosho what have you done to us?

Let's freshen up a bit, so lads and ladies what do you think the next file will involve? Who are your elected characters to be present in the next case? Do you think we'll have a glance of Rum or nah?

My bet is we'll be having Conan, Sera, Mystery Child, Shukichi, Okiya, Bourbon, Haibara, Jodie, Kogoro, and Ran. And we'll be heading into an Arc that connects the mystery child with Rum and the BO. I'm hoping and praying at the same time we'll have some plot development, while I know my hopes will be down.

Suddenly it's

... Drumrolls

DETECTIVE BOYS GO CAMPING!

While I would like some sort of a tie-up to the Bourbon Arc (the characters are seriously all over the place now), I'd prefer a Heiji case, since those are generally really good and WHO DOESN'T LIKE THEM? Though plot is good, so I'm fine either way.

Well, though I'm probably going out of place. ..one of my dreams is to see an epic confrontation between Heiji and bourbon! Dark skin battle!! ...still waiting for that talked-about confrontation of the wolves, Haibara vs Sera............or any other story developments for that matter...character development is a must, to say the least.....I mean the latest case told us that haibara watches Lum on TV, which is a development :P

I'll take any plot development of any sort. Besides, I suspect Gosho intends to end Conan on its 25th anniversary, so I doubt he'd slow down on the plot now.

Plus, he seems to be running out of ideas for new murder cases

Oh we've been saying this for years now and it's still the same. The only thing that makes me believe that the plot will develop is the mentioning of Rum lately. Although I doubt we'll have a significant plot development. Bourbon's arc took about 7 years so Rum shouldn't be any less than 5 years approximately. Who knows maybe it's the last arc of the series? But there are so many unfinished stories, with the number of breaks Gosho take it seems impossible to wrap everything up in 5 years. This would only change if Rum appears in a series of events like the ones that happened in the Clash of Red & Black. I guess it's possible we'll have a similar arc very soon, but for the series to end in 5 years? I don’t think so. It may take up to at least 7-9 years to wrap everything up.

Btw guys, How many files did Gosho release this year?

Wrapping everything up in 5 years... Seems like an impossibly tall task. There are plot points from a decade ago that remaines unresolved, and we're just getting to the introduction of Rum Arc. I highly doubt that Rum Arc will be the final Arc, because the Boss's second-in-command should really have more development and showtime than Vermouth or Bourbon. If Conan stays to its core (i.e murder cases with plot hints), finishing Rum Arc, tie up loose ends from Vermouth and Bourbon Arcs, solve the Akai Family Mystery, the unknown girl, romances and develop the Final Arc enough so it doesn't look like some rushed conclusion, I reckon a well-written end is probably a decade away.

~26 DC chapters (~29 with MK) since January. I'm going to guess the final tally will be ~32/33 (~35/36 with MK). It's about 15/20% less than his overall average very roughly. Normally I think he pushes more like 40-44 files a year (rough guess!). Gosho has slowed down over time, taking more breaks. Also somewhere in the middle his page count was cut from 18 to 16 pages.

BTW Guess for next file: Kogoro file, with a mention about Eri's previous operation. If we are lucky we'll get an update on what Amuro intends to do from here on out.

My expectation regarding the next case: it will continue with the same pacing we've had since the end of the Scarlet thing. We'll get minor development for one of the current plot lines/mysteries.

That's what's probably gonna happen.

Since we've mentioned the loose ends, I really miss the touching moments between Conan and Ran as she thinks about Shinichi. We haven't any development regarding this since the Holmes arc. Ran also mentioned that she's curious about how Shinichi's fingerprints are on the charm while it's Conan who held it.

I miss the times where she confronted Conan or she almost broke down due to her emotions. These moments are absolutely from the best in the series and what makes it so touching to we, the readers.

That's so against our ambition as fans, it's sad how hyped up we are sometimes and we only get 30 files during the whole year and 1/4 of them probably are irrelevant to the story line.
