If this is of help, I looked up the quote on Google and found a Japanese site that talked about the Miyano family and information regarding their involvement with the BO.
According to this site (http://www.geocities.jp/aho4869/conan/miyano.htm), the correct wording in the manga is ("...who took over this foolish research").
The "... who began..." is what was written on the manga back when it came out in the magazine: it apparently was retconned by Gosho by the time the volume came out.
("Incidentally, when it was published in the Sunday (Shounen Sunday), it was "began" instead of "took over") --> note by the author.
What the anime did is pick the dialogue from the magazine version as the volume hadn't come out yet back then: but given how the quote was retconned by Gosho then we should assume that "took over" is the right word.
I hope my contribution was of help.

Re: (spoilers) A crazy theory about Rum - The Rum being the Boss
@Shiromi: Hehe, sure, all we know about the Boss and Rum is their nicknames xD. That's why it is rather a theory, a crazy one, that cannot be proven because we know nothong about the dramatis personae.
But we know that the Boss is very careful. We also know that not many members know his identity, or otherwise Akai, Bourbon or Kir actually would catch him. Therefore we can assume that nobody would notice that the Boss has changed. Especially that the only contact with him is via E-Mails, and E-mails can send anybody who has an access to the maailbox. or example Rum who is very close to the Boss.
In fact I think that could be a real twist in the story. Even greater than guessing who else could be the Boss.
Soul_Dreamer actually may recognize that, but in Poland there's a very much liked (and super old, because from 1968-69) war drama miniseries - "Stawka Większa Niż Życie" (more or less it means: "A Stake Larger Than Life"). In its last episode the Polish double agent (who is like James Bond
) is searching for a Gruppenfuhrer Wolf. He's nazi officer, known for his cruelty. But nobody knows where he is, and his four adjutants don't won't tell his whereabouts, and state that they're low ranking soldiers, and they cannot be blamed for what their boss did. Our agent however finds that by adding the first letter of surnames of the adiutants we will get W.O.L.F.
The Boss might as well be a low ranking BO member we already know and like who hides his real identity so when the BO will collapse, he will be saved. One of the reasons why he just contacts each others through E-Mails.
But, like in my theory, Rum could be the Boss who took over the position from the real Boss a long time ago, but since nobody is in contact with the Boss, nobody then noticed. And Gin, he's like 25+ years old. He for sure might know the "new" Boss, thinking that he's the only real boss. For sure he wasn't there when the BO began, so he might not know what really happened in the past and what's the real objective of the BO.
@Spimer: That's agood finding indeed! Since Gosho changed that, it must means that someone else started the project, and they died or tested their own drug on themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if Vermouth and the Boss themselves started the drug!

Re: (spoilers) A crazy theory about Rum - The Rum being the Boss
@Spimer: Thank you for finding this information. Like Nemomon said someone else started the project.
I'm still thinking that 50 years ago or even more, both Vermouth and the boss were exposed to something that either stop their aging or de-aged them and stop aging.
@Nemomon: I heard about the series, but I don't think that I watched it. Rum taking over the boss' position would be interesting, but I prefer for the boss to be just one person without no one taking over his position. I hope we will get some interesting news on BO through Rum.
Vermouth and the boss could indeed start the project, but if that the case, what is the relationship between Vermouth and the boss? I would say either best friends/lovers or they married. It could be also mother-son relationship, however, it would mean that they deaged, first and then they stopped aging.

Re: (spoilers) A crazy theory about Rum
One thing is sure, Rum is not the boss.
On Jan 2014, Gosho had an interview and he clearly told that THAT PERSON have already appeared in the story. So yeah, it's not Rum
-Unless, Rum is Detective Takagi or so. lol

He also didn't mention (AFAIK) that Rum didn't appear yet, and (s)he is a completely new characterNightxBaroness wrote:One thing is sure, Rum is not the boss.

Gosho's words don't prove that Anokata =/= Rum
